Scavenger Hunt #12 Feb 6 – Feb 14

Welcome to the Scavenger Hunts from Life. The Hunts were started in 2006 by Jamie Williams Grossman as a way to practice with prompts. Artists have come and gone while forming some lasting friendships. We hope you will join in and tune up your sketching skills. All levels and techniques are welcome. We hope you can have some good times here. You can travel the world seeing the sketches of items at hand by the artists.

If you’ve participated in at least one Scavenger Hunt and have time to host one we would really appreciate it. You can sign up by posting your name on the current hosting schedule in the Art From Life forum here:
https://creativespark.art/threads/scavenger-hunt-from-life-host-sign-up-list.2481/

Here are the rules for the Hunt:
*All everyday common items on the list must be sketched from life – not imagination or photo reference.
*Each object you draw can count for only one item on the list, no matter how many shapes/parts/colors that object contains. This was agreed on by unanimous vote among the participants.
*You may place multiple objects together in a drawing or painting, and may count these objects as separate items, but no single object can count for more than one item.
*All items posted must be numbered. Count them as you go. The first item you post will be #1 regardless of its place on the list. Do them in whatever order you wish, but count them in the order in which you sketch them, from 1 to 26.
*Do as many or as few of the items as you like. You don’t have to finish the entire list to participate. The Scavenger Hunt “week” will last for 9 days, with the next hunt starting on the 9th day.
*Please tell us your size, surface, medium, and the amount of time it took you for each sketch. We love hearing about your subjects and setups. Photos of your subjects are welcome.
*Have fun!
*** If you have some hunt sketches completed but little time to read/comment, please post your sketches anyway. Commenting is appreciated but not required.

Thanks for the list Joan. Fantastic start of this Hunt with beautiful beach nature and two engaging people views.

Thanks for list Joan. Feel bad now I talked JennieJo out of posting her list. ☹️
That is OK Joe.... I hope she can understand ... as we all meant well to the continue going of the Hunt. And as this Hunt#12 originally had Robin name on it.... until the list was not posted and Joan has stepped in.

Joan, beautiful grasses. Appear to be in a breeze. Nice. The people are fun and you are so great to get out and sketch real people. Yay!

Thanks for the list, Joan. Fantastic sketches to start things off! Beautiful sketch of the two people absorbed in their activities (I don't know if they were together - I like the idea that it's a couple ignoring each other!). Beautiful work on all the windblown grass stalks - love the colours.

#1/2 - Beverage/edible. Sorry - continued from last week. Same mug/apple setup with acrylics & (soft) pastels, A2.

I didn't see a name on the list for this hunt and it was already afternoon. I hope I didn't step on any toes taking over. My apologies to JennieJo if she was planning to post her list.

JennieJo, please save your list and sign up for an empty date.

Thanks for your comments Ai, Jo, and Triss. The two people I sketched were there by themselves and were far apart in the room.

Triss, that sketch looks so good that I want to reach in an grab an apple and take a sip. Well done!

Ai, nice sketch of Tone. Did he know you were sketching him? He looks absorbed in his reading.

Triss, can't say enough about your apples and mug in oil pastel on acrylic. Sweet.

Ai, Tone looks so absorbed in his reading. Great sketch.

Joan, Jo: Thank you.

Joan: Tone was not aware of me sketching... He was busy reading.

Thanks for subbing Joan. I didn't do any for my hunt. Will try to do some for yours;

Joe what class are you taking.?

I have been doing a journal since the end of December. It is writing and art. For several days, I didn't do any artwork until today.

1 - beverage

Pen and colored pencil in my journal. What started me journaling was following and watching Samantha Dion Baker on Instagram. She lives in New York and has been journaling forever. She has about 40 filled journals. Journals her everyday life from food she eats, museums, her walk to her art studio.

Jo, Tone looks like he's engrossed in what he was reading.

Jeanne, Nice Dr. Pepper bottle. I will have to look up Samantha Dion Baker and see her work. Sounds like a fun person to follow.

I set up a. little still life.
4 - something red - watercolors
5 - something with blue checks
6 - something white (button mushrooms)
7 - something yellow

Jeanne, fun Dr. Pepper. I like your idea. My blog is the only “journal” I’ve been able to keep.

Joan, I like your still life. Cool. Colors are great.

Ai - Terrific portrait, and I'm loving your digital background experiments! Wonderful brushstrokes, and the colour simplicity is brilliant.

Jeanne - Love all the looping lines in your bottle sketch, and the journaling idea sounds great. I can't even manage to keep a sketchbook, but I envy people who have all these fun ways to look through their memories.

Joan - Fun still life! I love the bright colours, and the highlights on the lemon skin are gorgeous.

#3/4 - Fits in your hand/crunchy. Dog Kong & dog biscuits. Sketched in a hurry as this had (entirely foreseeable!) problems as a still life setup with two greedy dogs around. Acrylics & oil pastels, A2.

I was signed up to host this time but didn’t realize my opportunity came up already.....thanks for covering for us Joan. I will try not to do that again.
