Welcome to the Scavenger Hunts from Life. The Hunts were started in 2006 by Jamie Williams Grossman as a way to practice with prompts. Artists have come and gone while forming some lasting friendships. We hope you will join in and tune up your sketching skills. All levels and techniques are welcome. We hope you can have some good times here. You can travel the world seeing the sketches of items at hand by the artists.
If you’ve participated in at least one Scavenger Hunt and have time to host one we would really appreciate it. You can sign up by posting your name on the current hosting schedule in the Art From Life forum here:
https://creativespark.art/threads/scavenger-hunt-from-life-host-sign- up-list.2481/

Here are the rules for the Hunt:
  • All everyday common items on the list must be sketched from life – not imagination or photo reference.
  • Each object you draw can count for only one item on the list, no matter how many shapes/parts/colors that object contains. This was agreed on by unanimous vote among the participants.
  • You may place multiple objects together in a drawing or painting, and may count these objects as separate items, but no single object can count for more than one item.
  • All items posted must be numbered. Count them as you go. The first item you post will be #1 regardless of its place on the list. Do them in whatever order you wish, but count them in the order in which you sketch them, from 1 to 26.
  • Do as many or as few of the items as you like. You don’t have to finish the entire list to participate. The Scavenger Hunt “week” will last for 9 days, with the next hunt starting on the 9th day.
  • Please tell us your size, surface, medium, and the amount of time it took you for each sketch. We love hearing about your subjects and setups. Photos of your subjects are welcome.
  • Have fun!
*** If you have some hunt sketches completed but little time to read/comment, please post your sketches anyway. Commenting is appreciated but not required.

Fletch -- Thanks for the list! Hope to get back in the swing of things. A few sketches last week but not for the hunt. I picked up "cobalt blue hue" (decided against real cobalt to keep everything non-toxic) and white gouache, but haven't used them yet except playing with mixing.

Fletch, thanks for the new list.

Ned, hope you do get back in the swing of things. :)

My former student gave me a doll long time ago...

#1 Ethnic ...a Japanese doll....done with pencil and wc on a cheapo sketchbook ...
about 20 minutes

Ned, Joan, & friends- 👋🏽👋🏽

Ai, first off both the doll and your painting are beautiful. But 20 minutes? It takes me longer just to pick the paper and paints! 😎

Keep sketching
Fletch

#2 dull ...done with 2B pencil
#3 quadrilateral ..clock-wise from top-left...my cell phone, my accordion sketchbook, my two books, and a yogurt tub ... done by Koh-I-Noor magic pencil

On my way to cabin this morning I stopped to paint a castle from year 1373. It's cold now only +4 °C so I decided to paint fast.
Painting time: 30 min. Paint piles l put to palette at home before driving. I can do that outside, which would be the normal situation but cat came along as she likes to stay at the cabin. "The Raseborg Castle". Size: 30x40 cm. Oil on wood.

#1 Man made - "A castle from the 14th century"

This view could have been interesting also:

I'll probably post this later to pleinair, also, when I have finished it a tiny little bit more. The Winter Pleinairs are very quick. 🥶

Fletch, thank you for the new list!

Ai, beautiful Japanese doll painting! Excellent painting and sketch (s)!

Ai -- That doll is great, like that it's "life size". Agree w/ Fletch, 20 minutes! Nice lines in your pencil sketches!

Grapes -- it's so cool ( ha sorry! ) to see oil painting here. That's a neat castle! Brrrr!

All: Thank you for your kind support.

Grapes: Beautiful castle in oil paints. Beautiful shape structure and brick textures. Thanks for fighting the cold air for this great result.

Ai, thanks!
There was snow on the ground when we left home in the morning but this castle is near the coast and no snow.

Ai - Have to be honest the manikin for dull made me laugh. Well drawn though. The set of quadrilaterals with magic pencil is clever and fun,
`
Grapes - Like the impressionistic look to your castle painting, You focused on the castle. The other photo is more of a landscape with a castle in it. Hope that makes sense

Keep sketching
Fletch

Thanks for the list. Trying to find a schedule, last night was our first night alone in a month. Yes it has been a month. We are OK but hooked at the hip more than ever. Having home health for a while. The intensive rehab helped a lot. 3 hours of therapy a day. So quiet here and have to find stuff to do for Gene. He doesn’t like games so working on “stuff”.

Ai, the doll is so nice and your line drawings have depth.

Grapes, lovely castle. Nice to be out even if it is cold.

Fletch and Jo, thank you!
Robin, beautiful sketch and nice model.

I walked to a sea shore to sketch. It's warmer now +10 °C but wins makes it still cold.

#2 water - the sea
#3 rock - rocks on the beach

Ai, you did a beautiful job on the doll and the kimono!! Nice collection of quadrilaterals.

Grapes, brrrr!!! I would be sitting in my mobile studio to do those sketches. I really like the one of the castle. Impressive in such a short time. Your graphite sketch of the beach is nice too. Ah...you snuck in a sketch of a tree trunk too. Nice!

Jo, glad to see your post. It is great that you are finally alone. Glad to hear that the PT paid off.

Robin, I like your sketch of the little cabinet with the almost kissing characters.

I am trying to get out to sketch a bit each day. It is helping to calm me a bit.

This is a friend's house. She doesn't know I sketched it and it isn't quite done yet, but I'll post it here anyway.
