Thanks for subbing Joan. I didn't do any for my hunt. Will try to do some for yours;

Joe what class are you taking.?
Doing “25 Days to Better Drawing“ but spending more than 1 day on some lessons so will definitely take me more than 25 Days. It is a great review of basics. So far am on Day 8…. seeing shapes, drawing shapes, line quality, hatching, value, are themes I remember off top of my head,

OFF TOPIC: I posted my latest exercise in the Drawing forum for anyone interested. Was an exercise in value and light.

Triss the purple background really pops those apples and oil pastels. So fun!

EP, I like the markers. I thought I typed that in and said "Speak of the Artist...." Happy to see you, my smile of course.

Joe I'll go look at the drawing. Surely you can do one of the exercises from life and sub it in here for something. Association is OK, right?

Thanks, all.

Jo, thanks so much.

Triss, thanks. I can just imagine the dogs going wild while you were sketching. I'm loving the purples in these. It gives them so much life and energy. I'm glad that I know what a dog kong is from my sister's pooch. Fun look with the biscuits. Ahh...art supplies are always a subject that makes me smile.:)

Robin, I didn't see a name so I got a list together quickly. I tend to put my dates on my computer and then set reminders that pop up for myself that haunt me for days. lol

Saw the eye doctor today and the eye that had the surgery a week ago now has 20/20 vision. Yay!! It is so nice to be able to see what I am sketching. She said the other eye has a cataract too but I can decide when I want to have it done. It isn't an emergency.

8 - buildings - watercolors and ink (Look at all the details I can see now!!!)
9 - vehicles

Joan, love your grassy sketch and still life. Your town scene is lovely.

Triss, love your bright colors. I had a laugh at your still life problems. Good motivation to work fast!

"J", nice dr. pepper.

Ai, nice digital portrait.

EP, clever way to get in a lot of colors!

Jo, nicely done.

I did a few of the colors so I put a layer of watercolor over those.

#1 red timer
#2 Blue spray bottle
#3 White clock
#4 something sweet

Joan, your buildings and vehicles are so good and the man made. Happy your surgery went so well. It made so much difference in my life and are still so good after 30 years! Gene still has to see another specialist. We shall see what happens.

Anne your drawings are so good. The bit of color is nice, too.

I sketched while Gene had his teeth cleaned. #5 building, #6 vehicle #7 from nature. I lost perspective on the cars, but was so happy to sit on the tailgate of the car and sketch "outside". Beautiful day. We even sat on the porch a while after dinner.
These are in the small travel sketchbook with a Sharpie pen.

I was tired but want to get back to art... so in the morning I laid the wc ground down on my 9x11 inch sketchbook pages ... with washes of kido's gouache paint. In the afternoon, I put in on top of my ground, with a mixed of 2B Conte charcoal pencil + Neocolor watersoluable sticks (used dry though).

#2 white ... my favorite tiny Japanese cat key chain bell (it fell off the key chain years ago) ... image size about 3x4 inch
h12_white.jpg

#3 in a bottle ... a small glass bottle souvenir, packed in side with sand and tiny seashells, from Acadia National Park, Maine... image size about 4x5 inch.

Joe - Glad you're enjoying the drawing course, and pleased that you've posted one of your exercises - will go take a look!

Joan - Brilliant news that your surgery was so successful! Great sketches - love the casual feel of the lines for the car sketch, and the street scene is beautiful - particularly the way the shadow tones work with the greens.

ams - Really interesting result with the watercolour over the graphite - that's a great look! Excellent drawing for all the items - and I love the transparency of the spray bottle.

Jo - Glad you were able to enjoy your outside drawing - love the quirky cars and the scribble trees in the first sketch, and lovely attention to the branch shapes in the second.

Ai - Wonderful combination of the conte and neocolors! Both drawings have a real charm - lovely choice of subjects and style.

#9/3b - In a bottle/fits in your hand. Bottled paints, and my current favourite not-a-brush wedge thing. Acrylics & oil pastels, A1.

Triss: Thanks. Love the paint tubes combo, the super dog treat, and in the bottles. Love how you make different exciting ways out of same purple background. Your dabs are to die for.

Joan: Great works... beautiful red/blue/white/yellow veggie still-life...but the most amazing in my mind was the two houses on the hill. Love the depth, the perspective, and the beautiful color scheme. So glad that your eye surgery went so well.

Jo: Thanks. Wonderful to do both the color pieces and the outdoor of plain ink with vehicle. The red, blue, yellow, white condiments set is superb.

EP: Glad you have time to do art and post some cheerful colors of marker pens. Just Lovely.,

Anne: Thanks. Wonderful red and other pieces of shaded graphite. Wonderful highlight on the blue bottle.

Joe: Thanks.

Thanks for your comments, everyone. The sketch of the town was done sitting in a parking lot across from that view. I've sketched a few of the houses from that vantage point before. There are sections of Port Jeff that are so hilly...the streets, the driveways, etc. I've always wanted to do a sketch of the view driving into the town heading downhill. The water of the harbor is above the town dock area and is a great image. Unfortunately there is no safe place to sit that has that view. You pretty much have to be in a car on the road. lol

Anne, I love your illustrative style. Your objects look great with the soft watercolor shading you added.

Jo, I can just picture you tailgating while you sketch the building and the vehicles (which I think look pretty good). Nice that you could be "outdoors" sketching for a while.

Ai, I like your sketches done over the repainted pages. Good job on the leaves and the two interesting bottles/jars.

Posted in the wrong Hunt. Duh!
Sorry I have been missing in action. Feb 2 would have been my hubby's birthday. He's been gone 12 next month. I don't think about it much any more but sometimes it just hits.

Robin I had to move and downsize almost 4 years ago. Penny had to be put down not long before I moved. Dizzy put down about a year ago. I now have a little less than 10 lb shitsu/chihuahua named Libby.

Joe what is the class you are taking?
Thought I answered before. Course is 25 days to Better Drawing. So far it is mostly reviewing basics which is always good for me. Current lesson is using Value to create Forms from Basic Shapes.. Course is on TheVirtualInstructor website. I posted yesterday’s lesson in the Drawing Forum.

Per jo’s direction I watched for a chance to draw lesson from life. Shapes were rectangle, cylinder, pyramid and cone, so I used my cone and drew from life.
#1 something white - paper cone. Multiple grades of graphite and white charcoal on gray toned paper.

Zooming in sure does highlight the flaws.😎

Joe

Ai - Love all the conte drawings over the gouache ground - wonderful work with both the outline drawings and the shaded ones, and the spread of your sketchbook pages looks beautiful!

Joe - Fabulous shading! I've always been a bit lazy about the shapes - I used to practise balls and boxes but gave the rest a miss. Love the graphite/white/toned paper combination.

#10/11 - Open book/used in an office. Book & fox mug (that usually lives in my office as a pen holder, because it's pretty rubbish as a mug). Acrylics & oil pastels, A2.

Crikey, time goes by so fast, not got anything done for this week's list again (yet, still hopeful) but thanks for an interesting list Joan. Good to hear your surgery was a success, still awaiting my date

Joan - like your people sketches, very obvious they are engrossed in what they are doing. Lovely grasses swaying in the breeze and what a great vibrant still life. In awe of the town sketch I don't know how you get so much detail into a small painting

Triss - loving your purple patch, gives even more vitality to your energy filled sketches.. I can just imagine the dogs sitting looking hopefully at their treats, hope they got them as a reward for being patient. Good shine on the tube and bottle. Love the fox mug and the crop on this sketch is really dynamic

Ai - great digi of Tone reading, not something I've ever got to grips with. What a cute cat bell, good idea to have some backgrounds ready to go - they make the outline sketches even more interesting

J - good sketch of Dr Pepper, guess you got thirsty first and drew afterwards :)

EP - Good sketch of the pens, I like that you've shown the squished nibs on some of them

Jo - Nice still life, like the arrangement and the soft effect you've given it, How nice you got some good weather to sit out and sketch a lovely scene

Anne, lovely collection , the spray bottle is so good

Joe,- super shading, such a smooth transition, glad you're enjoying your course. Had my first 1 to 1 session yesterday. I'm going back to basics a bit as well, focussing on tone as I've been struggling with it recently courtesy of the eye problems,

Joe, triss, other wonderful works ,fantastic shading on the cone, ewondeful cup and colors

1, 2.3, 4

Ai, Your key chain bell is precious. Your souvenir in the bottle is so nice to have. Good memories. I like the lines on the leaves and sculpture. Lovely to see all.

Triss, your paint bottles are so fine. Exciting strokes and colors. Oh and a new mug. Bright colors, I like that. And a useful book.

Joe, ha, imagine you following my directions! you did a great job on the cone. Applause. I see no flaws.

joe1lt, I like your lines and hatching. Well done. I always find the clips hard on perspective, you did great.

Thanks everyone.
I sketched at my computer in the big regular sketchbook with the Sharpie pen.
Number 8 fits in your hand - my breakfast sort of a burrito, corn tortilla with ham, egg and cheese. Hard not to eat the rest and forget the sketch.
