Welcome to the Scavenger Hunts from Life.
The Hunts were started in 2006 by Jamie Williams Grossman as a way to practice with prompts. Artists have come and gone while forming some lasting friendships. We hope you will join in and tune up your sketching skills. All levels and techniques are welcome. We hope you can have some good times here. You can travel the world seeing the sketches of items at hand by the artists.

If you’ve participated in at least one Scavenger Hunt and have time to host one we would really appreciate it. You can sign up by posting your name on the current hosting schedule in the Art From Life forum here:
https://creativespark.art/threads/scavenger-hunt-from-life-host-sign-up-list.2481/

Here are the rules for the Hunt:
*All everyday common items on the list must be sketched from life – not imagination or photo reference.
*Each object you draw can count for only one item on the listless, no matter how many shapes/parts/colors that object contains. This was agreed on by unanimous vote among the participants.
*You may place multiple objects together in a drawing or painting, and may count these objects as separate items, but no single object can count for more than one item.
*All items posted must be numbered. Count them as you go. The first item you post will be #1 regardless of its place on the list. Do them in whatever order you wish, but count them in the order in which you sketch them, from 1 to 26.
*Do as many or as few of the items as you like. You don’t have to finish the entire list to participate. The Scavenger Hunt “week” will last for 9 days, with the next hunt starting on the 9th day.
*Please tell us your size, surface, medium, and the amount of time it took you for each sketch. We love hearing about your subjects and setups. Photos of your subjects are welcome.
*Have fun!
*** If you have some hunt sketches completed but little time to read/comment, please post your sketches anyway. Commenting is appreciated but not required!

I haven't been to the seaside in many years, but as it turns out, my landlady keeps a small collection of somewhat fragmented shells in a jar...

Joe, thanks for the new list.

Brian, so glad your landlady had some shells for you to sketch. Nice shading and shape to them.

Paul, nice collection of sketches. Good job on all the folds in the hand and nice Christmas plant. The kiss is very tempting... Right now I'm trying to keep chocolate out of the house.

Joan: Beautiful watrecolor and ink work. You construction site with the simplified shapes is awesome and
those sheep look very comfortable just relaxing their environment. The detail in the Antique shop is well done.

Sylwia: Great job on the jars/cups they all appear very life like.

Brian:
Nice pencil sketck of a very complex scene. Well done.

I went out today sketching with my group at a big jazz festival (Jazz International Thailand Conference) ... The band really like my sketch, and one of the boy's father offers me to purchase my sketch of 3 teens. I did not sell them the sketch yet but hope we can keep in touch thru music.

#1 primary -- Yellow and Blue (Sign of the stage of Jazz fest.)

#2 row of ... musicians

#3 sign ... TIJC (Thailand International Jazz Conference) hosted inside College of Music, Mahidol University, Thailand.

Paul - Nice group of sketches. Especially like the plant and your hand.

Joan - your first two paintings struck me. They still have sheep on Long Island and there are still places to build. 😎. You have the technique for glass reflections down pat.

Sylwia - would never have guessed digital. Beautifully rendered. Excellent shading.

Brian - Beautifully done!

Ai - Your paintings make me wish I could visit Thailand. I especially like the last one with the walkway.

Keep sketching

Brian -- I like the combination of the harder contour lines and shading in the shells and the nasturtiums.

Paul -- like the texture in the plants!

Joan -- the first one made me think of "the lorax".. those sheep are wonderful, I like the muted colors. Antique store has good atmosphere, not sure how to say what I mean ( not too cluttered, not too open... just right! )

Sylwia -- so many of your drawings have great shading to give depth and highlights. Like the way they seem shiny and how the hightlights have hints of color of what they are reflecting.

Ai -- like the lively colorful painting. Like how the walkway has a kind of "glow" in the last one!
