On the way back to NY for graduation!
#2 Sketch Often... same place as last time...

Jo, thanks for your comment. The continuous lines are fun.

Ai, I'm lucky to be so near the beach and the water in pretty much every direction. It comes in handy.

Ned, I like your airport sketch...so much happening on the ground. Have fun at the graduation.

Ned: Have a safe and fun trip. Congratulations to your daughter's graduation.

Joan: Lovely angel

Thanks, Ai. I think she's a sprite rather than an angel. Her wings aren't feathers...they are sort of sheer.

Ai - 3 hrs of watching others taking test sounds both boring and tiring. Nice line work on the sketches. Love the mini!

Jo - Ginger ale was my mother’s favorite soda. Everyone else I knew used it as a mixer for highballs or drank it for indigestion or nausea. Nice hatching. You definitely nailed the values in the guys walking.

Joan - sweatshirt and a jacket sounds like a very cold winter day. Just home from shopping food shopping it’s 91°. I especially like the driftwood. Oil pastel seems it should be simple but they are tough to use. Love your continuous line palette. Nice “sprite”.

Ned - congrats to daughter. Safe journey

Hoping to get some drawing in today.
Keep sketching and learning
Fletch

#2 good drink - borrowed idea from Jo. Ink in A5 sketchbook.

Thought it looked good when I drew it but now on screen can see the proportions are off.

Keep sketching and learning
Fletch

Fletch, thanks. Another day and it is damp and has only reached a high of 55. I'm glad I kept some winter clothes out. lol I like your Sprite bottle. Those strange bottoms are hard to draw. Can't remember when I've had a soda to drink. Give me water, wine, or beer and I'm usually happy. Your pencil looks nice and sharp. Good shading on that!

I went out all bundled up to sketch. I headed down to a restaurant on the bay in Islip. The Bayside Clam Bar & Grill wasn't open today, but I'm sure it will open for the season tomorrow.

18 - free space - watercolors and ink

Fletch: Thanks. Lovely line work on the bottle drink and the mechanical pencil

Joan: What a glorious outdoor sketch of the not-open but still have plenty of fun umbrella and lounge chairs... and wonderful lawn and gazebo.

Not so much sketch done for me... more like got hammered down with works... but hope to try to sketch a few more...

Ned, look at you sketching your planes now you have a journal.

Joan, sweet statue of the angel. Your free space is fun with all the closed umbrellas and a great flag for Memorial Day. We don't drink much soda. A diet coke with pizza perhaps. Gene can't drink wine right now so I'm sticking to water and decaf iced tea.

Fletch, super Sprite. The pencil is nicely done, straight lines and good shadowing. I drink gingerale for stomach, too. Canada Dry is about the only brand that still has ginger, so for me the best.

Ai, thanks for stopping in when you are so busy. We give you a grace period! ❤️

Out on the porch for my breakfast. We are going out for Italian today so thought I should eat my sushi and not keep it for more than a day. Never sketched or ate for breakfast before. It was delicious. I forgot to take the photo of all three pieces. Sigh.... In the Canson Mixed media book with Micron 03 and watercolors.

#6 something never sketched before - sushi California roll spicy.

Ai, thank you. It would be rather cold sitting there today. It is windy and cool...not a day to eat outside. Sorry you've been busy without much time to sketch.

Jo, thanks! Maybe I'll have your glass of wine with dinner tonight. ;) I guess you couldn't resist and ate some of the sushi before you took the photo. I like the way you showed the rice and filling. Nice!

19 - a building I haven't sketched before in Cold Spring Harbor - watercolors

Joan: Love your building with so wonderful details, esp. the happy Sun decoration. Such a charming community you are so close too.

Jo: Thanks... Love your sushi sketch.... so free, colorful, and happy colors.

Yeah...I got to go some sketches over the weekend... though my Thai snacks seemed to take a bit long to be called a sketch.

#8 favorite -- Thai snack, set over banana leaf and with a few chilli peppers (That is how some Thai people eat this dish, with chilli peppers... me no !!!)... done by directwatercolor over an expired Arches watercolor papers... with my expired wc paper...the paints will be sucked down the paper which resulted in less colorful impact or you have to paint over it so many times, to get the same effect you had hoped for, and my dead paper also gives out brown dot texture., in which might be good to this snack texture.. I tried my best with fun though.

#9 Good to drink -- a cup of hot chocolate with tiny marshmallows... wc+ pencil

#10 Good to eat -- Veggies: a bell pepper + tiny tomatoes... done with pencil+wc+brush pens, and some markers to punch up the dull wc on the dead paper

Today Tone and I went to a private concert at someone's estate home in the city. The musicians were a couple which have tour internationally and the gentleman "Rhys" was a former London Symphony Orchestra. But today the couple played "movie musics" theme, including Imperial March from Starwars, Mission Impossible, and Pirate of the Caribbean, etc. They told us some behind the scene of how the London Symphony Orchestra records music for Hollywood.

PS. I only sketched in the first 5 minutes, after that I put away my sketchbook. I showed the sketch to the musicians afterward, they seemed to be thrilled to see it.

#11 make me want to go out for ... music

Ai, you really went at it with your sketches today. Sorry you have paper that isn't working like it should...but your sketches were great even with the problem you were having. Your sketch from the concert made me smile. You did well with just 5 minutes. Bravo!
20 - made me want to take a ride (move) in one of the cars at the car show today - watercolors

Welcome to the Scavenger Hunts from Life. The Hunts were started in 2006 by Jamie Williams Grossman as a way to practice with prompts. Artists have come and gone while forming some lasting friendships. We hope you will join in and tune up your sketching skills. All levels and techniques are welcome. We hope you can have some good times here. You can travel the world seeing the sketches of items at hand by the artists

If you’ve participated in at least one Scavenger Hunt and have time to host one we would really appreciate it. You can sign up by posting your name on the current hosting schedule in the Art From Life forum here:

https://creativespark.art/threads/scavenger-hunt-from-life-host-sign-up-list.2481/page-9

Here are the rules for the Hunt:

  • All everyday common items on the list must be sketched from life – not imagination or photo reference.
  • Each object you draw can count for only one item on the list, no matter how many shapes/parts/colors that object contains. This was agreed on by unanimous vote among the participants.
  • You may place multiple objects together in a drawing or painting, and may count these objects as separate items, but no single object can count for more than one item.
  • All items posted must be numbered. Count them as you go. The first item you post will be #1 regardless of its place on the list. Do them in whatever order you wish, but count them in the order in which you sketch them, from 1 to 26.
  • Do as many or as few of the items as you like. You don’t have to finish the entire list to participate. The Scavenger Hunt “week” will last for 9 days, with the next hunt starting on the 9th day.
  • Please tell us your size, surface, medium, and the amount of time it took you for each sketch. We love hearing about your subjects and setups. Photos of your subjects are welcome.
  • Have fun!
*** If you have some hunt sketches completed but little time to read/comment, please post your sketches anyway. Commenting is appreciated but not required.

Joan, oooh, love the hair salon with the happy sunny face. Super detail and rich color. Your car is so fine, could be a 57 Chevy from what I see. Fun and love the shine. Your lobster is so colorful and well done. Does not make me hungry! I'd have to get my wine out!!

Ai, you were so busy, love the sketch of the food, Such a variety of color and textures. The hot chocolate in the nifty cup made me smile. Some colors seem to make dots, I had a friend that explained them to me but I forgot now. The pepper and tomatoes could have been my lunch if I had seen them in time! Your concert group is just so fine and quick!! Thanks for the photo.

Jennie Jo, nice to see you. Thanks for the drop in. Welcome anytime. You can experiment here.

Long weekend with Memorial Day tomorrow, Monday, in the States. We remember our military folks that made the final sacrifice for our freedom. See you then.

I signed up for the next hunt which has nobody's name next to it...#126: May 27 - June 7. Shouldn't it start on the same date that this hunt ends, which is May 26? I'm going to change it to start on May 26 and still end June 7. I will post it in a little while

Jennie, thanks for stopping by and letting us know you're lurking. You can join us any time with or without sketches.

Jo, thanks. I spoke to the owner and asked him about the car. He said he shows it in the car shows all around the island. It was funny but when I was leaving somehow when I was leaving I ended up in a line of classic cars heading out from where the show was held. My new Toyota was right in the middle. lol

Ai, good sketch of the students and the chair too. Thanks for hosting.

All Wonderful works of art- love every little tittle.

Was out of town until for four days and got back late last night. I study Kabbalah with a world group of friends and we here in the US haven't gotten together since covid. It was awesome to renew old friendships and enjoy new ones!!
