Scavenger Hunt from Life #146: Jan 22 - Jan 30 , 2025

Sketched at the computer desk with low light. Number 3 thing with handle - new mug from Joanna/Santa for Christmas. The blue was some sort of accident in the kiln the artist said. Sharpie pen and watercolor in the large Canson mix media book.

I sketched at PT in the travel Canson sketchbook (plain paper) with Micron 03
Number 4 thing with alphabet - some on the sign, I started with the letters too big so didn't worry about how they looked.
Number 5 simple scene - black doors to the left of the scene I first sketched.

Ai, thanks for your comments. I guess the building is simpler compared to temples and shrines.

Jo, glad you got to do some sketching at PT. Nice sign with BIG lettering. What is behind those doors??? Love the new mug...I'm ready for a hot chocolate. lol

11 - a thing with wooden parts (shelter) - watercolors

Jo: Love the mug... and what a happy accident which resulted in those blue patterns. The doors and the alphabet piece are great too. Yes, I always could not pace all the alphabets right. I always run out of space for some of the letters...He he.

Joan: What a nature treasure you have captured for us to enjoy. Love the wooden shelter, a perfect place to gaze at the birds. Lovely bird you did.

I went out to the city... but I was too tired... so I just sat in a small cafe briefly to have a cup of hot chocolate, got some baking goods and went back home, all while I was carrying around my sketch tote.... uhm.

Hi all! I might get one in before the end! I've been totally engrossed in finishing my custom fishing rod.... the final coating of finish is drying now! The finish goes over the threads that hold the guides on... it's crystal clear and looks neat. Not the same as sketching but very much making and creating. My wife looked at all the different crazy patterns of threads people do and called it the "male version of macrame" :) Mine is just simple black thread with metallic deep green thread trim...

Ai, thanks. Love your colorful mug and the efficient lines on your pencil case. Hope you are feeling more energetic today.

Ned, your custom fishing rod sounds like a work of art. Is this the first one you've done?

Hi Joan, yes my first one... I've always wanted to do it, and now that I'm retired I finally did! It was fun and satisfying...I'm already thinking about the next one...and looking forward to fishing with this one.

all the posts have been great. Little time to draw or comment but keep checking gor photo of Ned’s new fishing pole.
#1 muti-colored small kokopelli. Souvenir from vacation decades ago in Arizona. Inked then painted. Use pencil to mark proportions,

Keep sketching and learning

Joan, thanks so much. Yes hot chocolate good in cold weather. The doors must be break room and supplies. The restrooms are in the back. i love the gazebo and shed, great idea for wooden and lovely gull.

Thanks, Ai. Yes, Joanna got me the mug because of the blue on it. Sorry you were too tired to sketch on the one day, we all need a day off once in a while. (I think I over do days off. Ha.) I like the nice lines and zipper on the pencil case and of course the colorful mug is good for my collection. I was keeping the sketches in a folder and forgot when I got my new computer. Should start that again.

Ned great that you made your pole. Art in another way. Applause. Hope you catch lots of fish. Congrats.

Fletch, oh, I love the kokppelli. So colorful and well done. Whoot!!

I sketched but my sketchbook is in the car....sigh.

Ned, enjoy your new rod!

Fletch, I love your Kokopelli! Great use of color on this.

Jo, thanks for your comment. Sorry your sketchbook is still in the car.

Driving through Bellport this morning there was some road construction going on. I turned around so I could have a good view and parked to sketch.

Hi Fletch!

It's hard to photograph a 10 foot long fishing rod! I took it out today and tried:

I also tried to photograph it in use :) I only got a phone after I retired and can't hold it like my daughter can!

anyway you get the idea. The sun came out for a few minutes and those understated green trim bands had a nice subtle shine. I didn't want it to be gaudy... almost just used black thread but decided these would add a touch of color and I'm glad I did. More importantly, it seem to be perfect for the kind of fishing I like to do... very light and sensitive, casts wonderfully. All my casts, even easy ones, landed 10 to 20 yards further than I was aiming, which was kind of amazing. Real happy with it! Now I need to catch a fish with it! No fish today.

Ai, thanks for your comment. The cars on the left need to be a bit larger even though they were down the road, but I was sketching directly in ink so it is what it is. lol

Ned, I like the green trim bands...just understated enough. Looks great in your hand!! Wishing you lots of luck with it...maybe a fish tomorrow.

Our sketch group had a theme of packaged food last night.

Ned: Cool fishing rod... awesome that you could made it yourself...now you can sketch it too

Joan: Bravo on the still-life and the plein air ... beautiful

Ned - Beautiful. You did a great job. Must have some nice whip if you are getting 10-20 more yards to a cast. In RI there was a local fisherman who built custom rods. Word was he always had a long waiting list.

Joan - Both are nice. Is that a Widow Watch or Widow Walk? Use to see the up around Newport. Mostly along the shore line but many were replaced with “modern “ homes in name of progress. Thanks fir memory.

Thanks to all for supportive comments on my kokopelli.
Fletch

Joan, thank you. Almost forgot this tonight. I like your road construction. Good find for wheels and parallel lines. Excellent! Great job on the foofd sketch. We are supposed to get a Trader Joe's here this year. Gene likes their mini chocolate chip cookies. Good labels. The church or schoolhouse or barn with silo?? is soooo interesting. I see more and more as I look at it. Beautiful trees.

Ai, thanks for this Hunt and the next. Two in a row is nice for us!!

Ned, very cool fishing rod. You got wonderful photos, too. The bit of color is great. You should be so proud of your art. Good luck on the fishing!!

Fletch, hi. Ahhhh, Joan's building is a house. Thanks.

I sketched at PT yesterday and forgot all about it until tonight. Noting special in the small Canson sketchbook with the Micron 03.
