Scavenger Hunt from Life #145: Jan 14 - Jan 22

Jo - love the fruit and all the reflections. You sell yourself short on watercolor skills. Ring bix and pinecone are welll done.

Grapes - WOW! Great detailing.

Robin - like all the implied details that are not really there yet lead the eyes to fill it in. Tubs are great for storage.😎

Ned - Barnacles made me smile. Been a while since last saw any. Props for sending them home.

Joan - Jerry dies not look to happy. Your continuous-line work is amazing. Curious on the car,did you use difference strengths of pigment or just layer with same mix to make the interior darks? Am with Ai admiring your brickwork. You should give lessons. WOW on all the detail in the street scene. Best way to see snow in a painting or on TV. Thanks for sharing the picture of Ai and yourself. The feather looks so soft. The shrimp look delicious. You are right we have lots of feathers. Three headdresses add a lot to all the count.

Ai - Ribbon wrapped tree is so full of character starting with roots over the ground. The ribbons add a very cultural touch. Yum on the ice cream and pizza. Like how you used pen to define texture on baskets of fruit

Thanks to all for encouraging words.
Keep sketching and learning
Fletch

p.s. it is raining and in the 50s. Forgot how much colder the damp makes it.

Ai, we do well getting together on-line but would be so great to see and visit in person. I'm smiling.

Hi, Joan. We did have fun with our friends. So good for us.

Fletch, heard there is snow in Pensacola. Guess it won't get as far south as you but 50 is very cold for your area. We had a little snow and it hasn't all melted today.

I sketched at the footstool in the large book bottom of the page from previous sketch. Micron 03.
Number 4 - right in front of you

Thank you all for my B-day blessing : Joan, Jo, and Fletch. I wish I could visit the USA. again soon... but time and money for trip can be a challenge for us. We are planning to visit the kids's grandma in Atlanta by Christmas though.... Hope we can plan that through.

Fletch: Nice set of bow and arrow, and feather. Your bow+ arrow set reminding me of watching some PowWow events on Youtube. Do you think sketching as a spectator will be an OK thing to do.

Joan: Let's try to meet and go sketching at PowWow together. Hope there is one, not far from your area in NY.

Jo: Enjoy your fun reunion days... I'd like to take it slow too... especially on my birthday... hahaha
I don't know what Fletch will say about the PowWow sketching. I have been quite a few times. In general folks take photos of the whole thing as groups, etc. I always tried to ask individuals if I could take their photo or sketch their clothes. They do design their own and have copyright to them. I did small gesture sketches that were not any particular person or costume. I did a couple of paintings way back and was going to just change the design a bit, but decided I might make something wrong like trying to copy Chinese writing??? Very personal stuff. So I haven't ever profited from paintings or made exact people. I just don't. You see lots of paintings online so guess you have to decide for yourself.

Fletch, I may have used slightly darker pigment for the inside of the cars. I just reach for what is in front of me without thinking about it. Jerry was waiting for the numbing solution in his eyes. Then they do the injections. Sometimes he feels nothing and there have been times when it has been very painful. I think we've finally figured out that they have to wait for at least 20 minutes for it to really be effective enough. He dreads it every time. Hope it warms up for you. It was 12 degrees when I woke up and went up to the mid 20s. I'm ready for warm weather.

Jo, yes, it is good to get together with friends. I'm glad your friends came down to visit since you and Gene aren't traveling too far any more. Snow!!! You got some too. I actually went out in the cold today and sketched the snow from my mobile studio. I couldn't pass up the opportunity. I don't like keeping the car running while I sketch, so I only lasted until I started to feel chilly.

13 - jumble of trees, leaves, and snow - watercolors and gouache on toned Strathmore paper.

Jo: Wonderful stuffs in front of you sketch. You did such a great job of doing things in pen. For me, to go over the whole thing/scene in pen stirs my nerves... I will try that more though. Thanks for your inspiration. Thanks for the PowWow insight. ... I don't know if I will even witness one but all the bright patterns were impressive to watch on Youtube. I might try something in that nature in Thailand.

Joan: Wonderful snow scene. Thanks for being brave of the cold for art. Our friends in New Orleans got several inches of snow. What a changing world.

Fletch: Thanks.

ALL: I post Hunt #146 here but you still have time to do this Hunt.

Joan, no way I was going out to sketch, even in the car! You did so well. I like the drops of deep color, gives lots of depth.

Ai, hi there. Yes some friends in the panhandle of Florida got snow, too. Crazy. I'll check the new Hunt.

Ned, thanks for this Hunt. Maybe I'll get one more done tomorrow.

Hi All! I didn't abandon you... it's been busy and then our internet ( and phone and TV! ) went out for a few days. Came back on today. The last thing I saw was Ai's hand and foot and Joan's "right in front of me" view. I can't believe this hunt is almost done already. Today I bought a dip pen and some gold calligraphy ink to write on the custom fishing rod I've been building. I'm very curious about using it...

Joan -- I thought I'd already commented on it, but I think the linen texture paper looks neat. Do you know if it is real linen? A lot of "linen" paper these days only refers to the texture, not what it is made of. Either way, it's an interesting change! I think paper currency is still printed on linen, but it's hard to find real linen paper anymore. When my work asked what I wanted for my retirement gift, I had them order me 100% linen paper from Hahnemühle paper mill in Germany... I use it for photography, and wouldn't normally splurge for it!
I like the colors in the sky in the "right in front of me" view. Thanks for the photo of you and Ai! Brrrrrr.. we've been in the high 20's at night but that usually happens when it's clear... snow is rare and even rarer for it to stick. Yay on the shrimp! That feather looks hard... you did it well and I like the color in the pine cone. Your last one really makes me think "frozen"!

Jo -- Hi! Sometimes there are huge barnacles on things that wash up on the beach but I didn't find any that day. Those were tiny... Ih wished I had my reading glasses. ooh nice color on the pine cone and shading on the jewelry box. Like your "right in front of me" too. Brrrr it's cold in Texas too!

Ai -- I love banyan trees! That's neat wrapping with color... I hope they are protected. Great "abracadabra"! The sky looks great behind it. I've been making pizza lately ( new recipe where the dough doesn't have to rise for hours ) now you made me want to make more. I smiled at hand and foot. Happy birthday! Love the colorful fruit basket.

Fletch -- yay! I was thinking of you when I wrote "feather". Good job!

See you all in the next one!

Ned: Thanks so much. May be you can use the gold paint and the dip pen to draw for a sketch here too.
