Joan, Jo, Fletch, Brian, and Robin: all your sketches are charming.... They have brighten up my days.

@Fletch ... With my fountain ink sketch, I used 3/4 inch brush lightly dabbed in water then touched the ink line sketch where the shadows were. If I had done this with a smaller brush, I might have fiddled with the sketch shadow too much and possibly weaken the desirable outcome... my 2 cents thought ;) .

@Robin.... In Thailand, some of the craft works of some local hill tribe people are done in those colorful squares too. Amazing how different cultures overlapped.

Thank you all for your kind words and support too.

Robin, Grazie!

Jo, it is great to be able to sketch while Gene is there. I hope you both are doing well.

Fletch, hope to see more sketches with that pen. I left my good pens and inks at home…too much of a chance of them leaking. I miss having them with me. Wish there was a good art shop in Venice.

I’m on the vaporetto going to the small island of Burano. Lots of crayola-colored houses there.

Joan - love the altar decoration

Robin. - No gift is as meaningful as handmade.

Jo -Neat snail maul sketch. Is the Madonna in the park by you? Cool light.

Ai - you fiddled just the right amount. The water and shadows are spot on.

#3 draw pulls. This may seem obvious to some but one of the things that struck me using ink today was the limited control of line quality. With a single grade of graphite you can get a wide range of line quality as Brian does so well. Maybe with a flexible nib you can come closer but with a standard nib there are very limited variations you can achieve. Drew in A5ish size sketchbook.

Joan, ah, memories from Burano. Let's see if we have painted the same houses, canals, corners. Can't wait for your Burano paintings and sketches!

I haven't been able to draw or paint from life so that's why I don't post. I'm working on larger projects and they occupy all my days.

Oh I’m so missing comments. All y’all have done so well. Traveling with Joan and all the fun items. Quick unrelaxed sketches. Gene is working hard in intense rehab. Hoping for a Nov 2 release/graduation. Slow progress hard for him to see but better each day.

Jo, these are really good drawings! Nov, 2nd is far away and long time for you to wait but I hope everything is ok with you and it won't feel too long for you! 💕 I'm glad to hear he's doing better.

Joan, beautiful Burano! That's how I remember it. I also painted colorful houses. 😊 I was there only once.
I think I recognize the arch. It's in the main street where the group of shops are, isn't it!

Fletch, nice drawer pulls. 👍
Jo, lovely "letters & postcards" send street/path lamp.

Robin, l like a lot your Christmas 🎄 tree and other ornaments. Perfect models to paint.

Ai, the fountain is just perfect, good drawings of umbrella and interesting looking chairs!
Also, very nice still life setup, lovely blue bottles and tomatoes.

Joan, love your Venetian paintings the building corners of the houses, the door decoration detail so lovely subject matter. Venice is full of interesting details everywhere, interesting corners, light, stuff happening. Missing vaporetto rides! Missing Venice!

Fletch, glad to see I was right! Lol

Jo, glad to hear the good news about Gene’s rehab. Lots if rehab stuff there to sketch. Good indoor and outdoor sketches!

Grapes, thanks. This is probably about the fourth or fifth time I’ve been to Burano and I’ve sketched each time. There are several arches. I think this one led to one of the smaller canals. I like riding the vaporetto in the evening when some of the buildings are lit up inside and you can see some of the elaborate decorations. Today is very rainy so I don’t know what I will sketch.
