Drawing Practice ✏️

You did the eyes so beautifully, Jade! I just realized how difficult it must be to determine which shading is from the actual facial structure and which shading comes from cosmetics.

So glad I finally got over here to see your Drawing Thread 😄 WOW 😃 I love your work itself, but am also grateful to be inspired by your dedication, and joy of creating ☀️ PLUS, you can’t go wrong with ice cream trucks, and the Eagles 😂😍😁 Have fun, and I’ll keep watching your thread — thanks much 😂👍☀️

Thanks Wayne 🙏 and for all your help.. much appreciated.

Aw thanks Donna 😄 I'm feeling a bit more confident with 👀 now. Appreciate the feedback.

PineCone lovely you see you here and thanks for your lovely feedback. ❤️ I am enjoying myself (and I do get a bit obsessive lol 🫣).. glad you appreciate the ice cream trucks and eagles!

This is what I made for a neighbour this morning lol (she often gives us runner beans from her garden. She is going through a hard time and I'm going to make a card later with a picture and to check how she's bean)

My colour pencils arrived yesterday. I went for 48 Arteza. I think I like them lol. 😅 After researching it A LOT, this seemed the best option for me/my budget and I think I just need to get used to them.. they feel very different to graphite.

I initially had a thought to sell them and go for 12 polychromos at roughly the same price (after my first practice.. the rose 🌹via a Kirsty Partridge tutorial). I mainly want to add some colour to cards for family/friends so I think these will be fine.. just a bit lighter and harder to blend than I imagined but think I need to practice. My second try (🐭 via nadyart) suited them better I think...

Anyone else had experience with CPs and getting used to them? Kirsty Partridge seems to have lots of good tutorials on YT that I'll watch too. Obviously however good the pencils are, I still need to keep learning.

Maybe, like me, I think of the cash I put out and I feel I should not have spent so quickly, but the feeling goes away as you realize time is on your side. Look at shading as finding the right color and not so much blending.

I think you might have hit the nail on the head, Wayne. We spend so long looking at these supplies and when we get them, they're still just essentially a coloured pencil (or whatever.) I thought they'd be a bit stronger colour wise but actually when I look at how the expensive ones draw, I think they're quite similar. I like that re finding the right colour ... Back to the paper! 😅

That’s it, enjoy the moment. Did you check out her Do’s and don't s for blending with color pencils?

Nice colored pencil work! I have some Prismacolors but don’t use them much. I think I read that some colored pencil artists work on a heated surface so the wax from the pencils melts a little and gets smooth. That would require a lot of patience!

Finished kingfisher 💙🧡💛🖤

Phew! Feeling happier with my purchase today, Wayne 😅 & enjoyed doing this. Yes, I watched that.. YT saves you going down a lot of blind ends!

Thanks Donna! 👋 Ooh interesting about the heated surface. Kirsty used solvent on her video which looked great but part of the reason I chose pencils was to keep the faff down so I'm not keen to do that and I'm happy with the results now I'm getting into it anyway. However a hot water bottle under a tray could work and be easy (plus keep my knees warm in winter!) .. 🤔😃

Thanks Wayne! ☺️ I thought I might have overdone it getting 48 pencils but it's lovely to have lots of shades to play with 👌💙

Yeh, I knew a little about warm and cool colours re make up.. it's interesting to learn more in this context. I did a tutorial last night with KP again about skin tones and which colours to mix for which.. I'm enjoying playing 🎨🧑‍🎨
