Drawing Practice ✏️

Looking good, Jade. You do have a thing for the whimsical style - and it’s good to know what you really want to focus on.

Thanks guys! ☺️ I'm feeling really pleased with this week's progress and have been enjoying finding quirky, whimsical cats pictures to draw. I've just made a little picture to say thank you for your support... It's really helping to check in here and get feedback.

Hi Jade….when you shade your darks have to be dark or the lights won’t be light and remember your angles of eyes, nose, mouth forehead are all similar and follow the same angle. 😀😀 keep them churning…

Thanks Wayne. I know what you mean. I kept to the lighter shades as I was worried about going too dark and then not being able to reverse! I may play with adding more shading. Yeh, I think sometimes with the grid method I seem to lose those lines between the eyes, nose etc.. something to remember..

I will 👊😅

.. don’t look at it that way. That is counter productive. You are studying and not making art for the gallery. If you mistakenly darken too much it’s no big deal: lesson learned. Remember, it’s learning as you go.

Yeh that's true. I'm enjoying it but trying not to get too serious / intense about it as is my way sometimes. Thanks for the reminder. 👊

I'm pretty happy with this though I can see the differences. I also need to practice lips 👄 next.

Nice work here, Jade. Are you starting with some kind of grid? Lips are more complex than they seem with all their curves and forms moving from light to shadow. Ears too!

Thanks Donna! With this video she'd used a method of lines to measure between mouth, nose, lips, hairline, ears etc vertically and horizontally. I then also used the grid method on top of that 😅 still a little off but I'm happy with my progress and think my shadings getting a bit better. I might practice ears and lips next👂👄

First though a whimsical cat's in order today I think! 😹

Another one.

Went down a rabbit hole today researching the Loomis technique etc and portraits but think I'll stick to the grid method and try to get them more precise plus practice...

Thanks Donna! ☺️ Appreciate that. I'm not working much over the summer so drawing everyday atm.
