My 5 art related things I did last week.

Sunday afternoon paint with my new icy colors watercolors.

Sketchbook 12 x 12 cm , painted pages watercolors, gouache, acrylics, mixed media.

Watched some Arte.tv for landscape inspiration.

Looked up paintings online, see ArtProf youtube video.

Sort out acrylics paint tubes see what I have and thinking about maybe some new colors.

- Worked on a butterfly drawing
- Worked on a bunny drawing
- Matted and framed an owl drawing for long time colleague who is buying it
- Partner showed me his in-progress wood carvings
- Updated art blog

Love this question!

1. Read “All Fours” by Miranda July (film director, screenwriter, actress and author) about a semi-famous artist who decides to drive cross-country. A sexual awakening ensues. Recommended reading because it was fantastic!

2. Got accepted into a show called “Women’s Work 2025” at a local gallery. It was 40 artists out of 600 applicants and they chose a painting of an ancient Japanese fertility goddess with googly eyes and strange boobs. She’s posted around here somewhere. Yay me.

3. Am working on a large canvas about immigrants (yep!) and I wanted to put some old timey landscape behind them so I’m copying prints of olde Quebec and Sicily. I am sooooooo not a landscape painter so it’s a bit of a challenge. Fingers crossed.

4. The front yard plants got their first haircut and they look like a newly shorn poodle…bald and awkward! He (landscaper) also rearranged the river rock “trails.” (We all have rock yards out here in NM…no grass). I bought 3 ceramic pots waiting for their ornamental grasses, soon to come. This is all kind of artsy, right?

That’s all I got.
And it was stretching a bit to get there.

* put final (maybe) touches on an oil portrait of my grandson and son in law
* went to life drawing Sunday night
* sorted out watercolours and other materials ready for my (adult) student
* watched some watercolour videos for ideas
* culled some drawing materials that are past their use-by

Thanks for asking!

It's fun seeing what all of you have been up to.

* ripped out articles from art magazines and so I can keep the useful ones and let the rest go
* attempted to paint a cow from a photo reference and realized how hard it is to paint cows
* thought about organizing some sort of informal drawing activity with the neighbor kids when it warms up
*picked up a free framed print only to realize the frame is plastic and the mat is thin, cheap and unusable. Lesson learned.
* made four chickens that I stuffed with rice to become little beanbags for kids. Fine art! haha

Half way through my acrylic canvas painting.
Started botanical watercolor.
Read one chapter a day from different art books.
Completed art and craft mini projects with grand kids on weekends.
Interesting to read other artists' activities.
Thanks.

I'm currently playing around with mounting some transparent (gel medium) image transfers over a painted canvas. A idea that may or may not work. Haven't had a lot of time to play with it.

I also regularly clean cat hair off the drafting table. Hey, it gets me in there.

This is going to be a stretch because I haven't touched my art in a while.

1. Organized my "studio corner". Since I moved, I no longer have a room devoted to art. I just have a corner in the living room now. Anyways, it was kind of a mess from whenever my last painting session was. So I finally neatened things up and put everything away that I'm not likely to use for a while. I kind of lost interest in my painting, so I put my painting and easel away too.

2. I browsed some older threads on WC to see what I could find. Found some interesting discussions that got me thinking.

3. Browsed a pastel magazine I received in the mail. Didn't actually read much... but gave it a browse anyways. Looks like it has some good stuff in it. Too bad I had to cancel my subscription... I like the magazine, but the company severely overcharged me and in addition, refused to honor the promotion they had running when I signed up. So I ultimately told them to end it and refund me. Oh well...

4. Browsed art supply websites for things I don't need. Very tempted to order a couple things. I had it in my head that a new supply might motivate me to get working.

5. Does also organizing my crochet supplies count? I have nothing else for #5.

My 5 art related things I did last week.

Sunday painted with watercolors.

Saturday painted with acrylics.

Watch few youtube videos of art fairs in Spain.

Got out my small gelatine plate and inspired by videos by Gerda Lipski german abstract painter on youtube did few small prints mixed media acrylic and acrylic gouache.

Read a bit in book The Craftsman Handbook - Cennino Cennini.

Unfortunately, my week didn't entirely involve art making, but was filled with a lot of necessary art organizing:
  • Spent time cleaning/reorganizing my art desk (work in progress)
  • Organized some in-process paintings and got them stored in one place
  • Wrote a description and took some photos of a plein air set up that I'm going to sell (but have not yet posted it)
But also some actual art-making:
  • Began a small plein air, but the light drastically changed so it remains unfinished
  • Attended a painting class
So, creating-art-wise, not the most productive week, but those other tasks are necessary ones.

Did five more:
1. Tonight - going to the closing exhibition night at a local Art Gallery.
2. Reserved the name of my upcoming website.
3. Spoke with a Website developer and am moving forward with a website.
4. Bought four new art supplies for my upcoming work.
5. Readied multiple art files of work, I will be displaying on the website.

My 5 art related things i did last week.

1. Sort through mixed media art supplies and sketchbooks and found in 2 blank books used as sketchbooks , both have unused 12 blank pages so start using those. Some pages in these 2 are half unfinished so add some bits here and there.

2. Painted a empty glass jar with leftover acrylic paint mix opera pink + titanium white.
It now is storage few long brushes etc.

3. Read a bit for inspiration in Brigitte Waldschmidt german acrylic painting book Acrylmalerei Mischtechniken, bought in a sale from a german online shop long time ago https://creativ-discount.de

4. Bought a coloring book Festive Mexican Talavera Designs Creative Haven. I also use watercolors not too moist brush in these. Besides coloring for relaxation , it is nice practise for colors practise, color combinations, etc.

5. Painting small acrylic painting to send to my daughter in US in her next care package.

Pictures to see.

Sketchbook pages inspired by Cordoba Spain patio videos, this is a very short video. Patio a inner garden area of old houses with lots of potted plants hanging on walls, pots are terracotta often color blue. Some can be visited by tourists certain times.

Last week I purchased "Cézanne Drawing". It's not a book for landscape artists IMOSHO.
Last week a received a previously purchased book "Cézanne's Watercolors: Between Drawing and Painting" which I would say was a disappointment for a landscape artists.

I am currently exploring purchase options for "Cezanne: Landscape into Art"
