Agree with the above comments, and I love the title also. And for some reason, those brown dashes are hypnotic to my eye. Maybe as a respite to the color? Interesting. Very cool Ayin. Fascinating and fun.
9 x 12 inches .. oil on paper .. abstracting the landscape .. alla prima .. just smooshing paint around but leaving the blue pond as the center of attention
This is a large painting (3x4 feet) that I just finished little details on. It’s acrylic. I kind of like it in the dynamic sense, but it’s also for the love of colour and lines and just playing with mark-making.
Wow, I love everything about this painting, Christine. Your juxtaposition of blues and cyans is stunning! That area of black and red lower left is wonderful as well.
Here is a quick experiment to try a brand of texture paste called Atlas Qualitex, which I mixed with some sand to get a rough texture. I combined two themes: For the Love of Texture and For the Love of Colour.
Alkyd oil paint on hardboard panel, 400 x 400mm.
Detail of the textured orange area, which is 210mm wide and up to 8mm thick.
Wayne.... really nice. A pond of blue calm amidst a chaos of green. A place to relax.
Christine......excellent. Reminds me of the west side of Manhattan where the buildings meet the Hudson river. Piers stand in the water and light reflects off glass at sunset. Really nice.
Hermes ......I'm reminded of couples. One is bolder than the other but together they touch, contrast, and give more meaning to the other. Perhaps they are the first two cells that meet in the primordial soup and portend all the amazing possibilities to come.
Good stuff guys. Cool seeing such variety. I still have to finish mine.
Christine, 3x4ft?! Wow this one must be impressive in real life! I love the colors, the patterns and the sense of energy in it. I see city lights, traffic and motion. I imagine this one took awhile.
Hermes, this is awesome! I always see organic forms in your work - cells interacting - or are they planets in a warm, orangey space? The texture and the mysterious symbols only add to the intrigue. Are you pleased with the performance of the texture paste? I've never heard of that brand so it's good to know there's another choice out there.
Thanks John. I like hearing what people see when they look at my work, especially when it’s places that I’ve never been to. I think that’s just great. And I look at it very similar even if it is not New York City as I have never been there.
Thank you, Donna. Yep, it’s big. I like to work big as well as miniature. And I see the urban element as well. Hermes, there’s a lot to enjoy in your experimental piece. The texture is very cool. And the colours are great too. Like everyone else I see cells. Life under he microscope. Very cool! I like the experimenting!
Christine: Excellent painting! Love the way you split the composition and made it work beautifully--not easy to do this successfully, but you did it. Really compelling, popping piece! Bravo!
Hermes: I love yellow and how you blended this into the golds and oranges. This is an ode to the sun and the sunspots and the flairs (for me). It's wonderfully enthusiastic in nature. Great texture, always a favorite of mine in painting. Super well done!
Thanks for your comments John, Donna, Christine, and Arty! I think my trick of telling myself it's an experiment leads to looser work.
Donna, I am happy with the texture paste. Although it was applied quite thickly as a test, it died hard in 24 hours without any hint of squishiness, unlike some other types I've tried
After seeing Donna Ts edits to one of her works, I began playing around some older pictures and paintings. Apologies Donna, I can't find you post right now, but I'm sure you'll see you influence.
I used an old sheet I used when creating a palette a while back. These are digital edits, but there's a couple I started in oils.
My verandah, a hose laying the garden, an photo from Central Queensland, an oil painting ice just sold.
