Nice Fox Jane. I like the subtle variation in fur color that you have.

I did the Robin on a Branch. 4"x7", Line and Inktense wash in XL Mixed Media sketchbook.

Anne, I just love everything about this. The detail on the feathers, feet, the wee bit of texture on the branch, and the subtle BG. Apologies if I have asked this before, but you sketch in pencil first? Approximately how long did this take?

Hi Joy,

Glad you liked this little fellow.

I do pencil sketch first, then add ink and erase the pencil lines. It usually takes me about 30 minutes to do a sketch, another 30 minutes to add the ink and then another 30 minutes to add color. Sometimes it's more or less depending on the complexity of the subject and how much detail I decide to put in. Also, if the colors are bright, it make take longer to add the color because I have to strengthen it with multiple layers and it needs to dry between each one.

On this one, I put in the shadows first before adding local color. I used deep indigo which is a greyish dark blue in inktense.
