Hope I've come up with enough thoughts to be your stimulus.

1. Artists - paint in the style of an artist. This is a short list of artists that appealed to me the first time I saw one of their works:
Miro, Rickter, Helen Frankenthaler, Chu Teh-Chun , Brett Whitely
Or, choose your personal fravourites

My latest "find", Peter Griffin, https://petergriffen.com/abstract

2. Geometric themes: landscapes in layers, boxes or cubes,
3. Animals: -
- birds in flight, dancing
-humans :) ... wearing hats, flying, celebrating

4. AbEx, Abstract Expressionism: night, shadows, poles, rivers
5. Facial features
6. Doorways
7. Sounds of ... bush, a single flower, train
, freeway

Please add your media, processes, and stories if you feel so motivated :)

Post whenever you have something to share. Any media. Any perspective. I would prefer noAI, but only if it doesn't breach group rules.

Jennie

Admin, could you pin this so it won't get lost over the month

One to start us off.

I've been looking at Ed Paschke’s work thanks to a post from St. Luke's guild on another post. This is version 2 of Once Was A Coke Bottle. It is 35 X 24 cm board, with a couple of thin layers of oil paint-had other plans for it. Pastel marks were to be prep for next later of oil but I'm not sure what I'll di next.

Had a small canvas, 10 X 8 ", that was a plan for a green frog. Another granddaughter project. So this title is" Once Was A Frog and A Coke Bottle.

It was just sitting there. I had no choice. Acrylic bsse, thin oil layer over that and grated pastel over that. As I was working on it, I flipped it. Now there are 2.

The first one reminds me of my favourite coffee percolator.

Jennie, I would love to know more about your method to get that marvellous effect with grated pastel. So that I can steal it. 😄

Thank you JennieJo for this challenge and wonderful prompts! Very cool.👏🏻👏🏻
Very cool evolving pieces too. I am intrigued with your mixed media. Oil paint and grated pastel… how interesting! I like your experimental approach and mark making in unusual ways. In your last piece I see a female form and face.
So glad people are interested keeping up interest in the abstract forum! 🙂🙂🙂

Thanks Christine, I like the way they evolved too. When I jumped into art as something more than just something to do, I called myself an experimental adventurist ... mainly because I had no idea what I was doing.

Hey Hermes. Steal away. Ockams Razor is my guide, felt I should warn you in advance. I put a thin layer of an oil paint medium I use over the whole thing. Just to make sure I had no too dry spots. Then used a bit of sand paper, that I am using to sand down an old church bench. It was there, and I just couldn't find the scraping tool I'd purchased when I did a pastel workshop. Then I sandpapered the pastel and let chalk drop along the lines I thought could be interesting.

Oh, and Jennie, sorry for confusing your name again. I caught myself when I returned here, when you were likely posting. My brain some days, I tell you!
Very interesting process!

Not a problem at all. I understand your process very well. I see it as a special talent.

Number 3, created after browsing Andre Kano, who was mentioned in another post. "Sounds of the Bush" is a fluid acrylic on thjn A4 paper. It is an image from the front steps of my home. In summer.
