Scavenger Hunt from Life #145: Jan 14 - Jan 22

Robin -- your freezer made me smile... like the laundry/bathtub/vacuum! Sometimes where ever I'm sitting, I just draw whatever is in front of me.

Jo -- I like the reflections on the colander. Nice collection of different fruit! Grapes in front w/ purple backdrop looks good.

Grapes -- :) if I'd known you still have the pineapple I would have made it "pine cone or pineapple"! Nice colors.

Joan -- my parents are about 70 miles away... anywhere from 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 hours each way depending on traffic. Emily flies back to NY tonight! Having her here went by fast.

I was hoping to find some of the big barnacles that come in on things that have been out on the open sea, but only found some tiny ones. This one was about 1/4" wide on the bottom of a piece of kelp that was high and dry. The barnacles opened up a little while I was drawing ... still alive! So I threw it back into the water before I left....

#1 crustacean -- a barnacle

Grapes, thank you. I like your pineapple! I find them difficult to paint...the outside never comes out right for me. You have nice depth in those little sections.

Robin, you filled up that sketch with quite a few items. Looks like the tub is the center of a lot of activity there. lol

Ned, what a great find! They always have such odd shapes. Nicely done.

Jerry had an appointment with the retina specialist for his eye injections today.
2 - human - continuous ink line

IMG_7030.jpeg

3 - useful item (car) - watercolors and ink on a linen kind of paper that is supposed to be for oil painting. I got a tiny pad of it in a goodie bag at an art event and play on it.
4 - trees

5 - free space - watercolors and ink (A view of one of the shops in Sayville. I think the name of it is good things.)

Ned: Fantastic sea little creatures on the kelp. Well done & well documented in visual graphics.

Joan: Wonderful texture in the oid-paper-pad for your wc works. Difference & Nice. Lovely details on the free space and you know, I always impress of your brick works. Awesome recording quickly of Jerry on the eye check.

Robin: Awesome quick dazzling works, now not only the blue lines but the yellow color punches raise its excitement even more.

#4 Abracadabra ...a direct watercolor of a A Thai giant banyan tree, wrapped with colorful clothes to protect the spirits, who we believe stay with the giant tree. This act of wrapping may help in deterring people of cutting down such trees.

Thanks, Joan. We usually just have bananas and apples. Your continuous line drawing of Jerry is so amazing. Wow! Love the thought of the car as useful item. So true, take ours for granted. I like the texture on the oil paper. Your free spot is so good with the street lamps and all. Another wow!

Grapes, oooh, what a fun find for pine cone. Great job on the pineapple.

Robin, love the tub and laundry. Reminds me of my dear mother-in-law. Where did she put the overflow? Perfect. I like the colors, too.

Thanks, Ned. Your barnacles are so nifty. I've never seen any or didn't know what they were if I did. Mostly a land lubber. Ha.

Ai, clever for abracadabra. The banyan trees are so interesting and a novel way to try and save them. Love all the colors.

Directwatercolor inside a pizza+ gelato shop

#5 before me ....pizza
#6 jumbled...flavors of ice cream in one cup
#7 kitchen item...plate+fork+spoon

Jo, thank so much. That paper definitely wasn't the best to use...sort of frustrating with the watercolors, but I had it so I used it.

Ai, now if I had that view I'd be eating not sketching. lol I'm not very patient when there is food around. It would at least have a big bite out of the pizza. lol I like your quick foot and hand sketches.

Yesterday this view was...
7 - right in front of me - watercolors and ink

Jo, Ned : Thank you.

Joan: Thank you. Your sketch of what in front of you is amazing with all cool details and lovely shadow. You did all cars so wonderful.

AI, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! I hope you are having a wonderful day. Here we are in our younger days. I think we need to do an update.

We had a little snow overnight...maybe an inch. I have to sketch it before it is off the bushes.
8 - frozen - Procreate

Jerry had an appointment for a blood test this morning, so we were out in the freezing cold. Once we came home I didn't venture out again, so I did some hunting at home.

9 - crustaceans - direct watercolor
10 - lemon

Thanks so much Joan for our precious photo and my b-day greeting. Hope to be able to do a painting trip with you soon.

Joan: lovely pinecone, crustacean, snow scenes...but your graceful feather with wc and ink combined felt so light and airy... fantastic job.

#9 fruit basket... Behind the scene of our fruit smoothie shop in our campus... directwatercolor then gray ink on top.

Ai, Oh, Happy Birthday! Love, love the photo of you and Joan. Is that at Grand Central Station? Wow! I really like the sketch of the pizza, ice cream and plate, etc. Such a fun idea. The hand and foot made me smile. Simple but nice lines. The fruit for smoothies is great. Nice technique.

Joan, your view in front of you tells such a story. Look at all the signs and detail. Whoot!! Like the frozen snow "puffs", too. Fun and well done. Yummy crustaceans and lemon. mmmm. The feather is so airy and light looking. The pine cone has great color and depth.

We didn't do much the last few days. My painting buddy "bag blog" on my blog came down from Oklahoma and spent a night. We had good visiting but not time to paint. Today I stuffed off and watched the inauguration. I like the pageantry and patriotism. The military review was so nice. Long day for all the politicians and crowd that waited in the cold.

Happy Birthday Ai!

Sorry have thought a lot about drawing but RL has been uncooperative
Snuck this in today. Try to comment tomorrow at PT.

#1 bow #2 feathers. Sketched basic shapes in pencil to make sure it fit than drew in ink. Full page in A5ish sketchbook.

Thank you all for my B-day blessing : Joan, Jo, and Fletch. I wish I could visit the USA. again soon... but time and money for trip can be a challenge for us. We are planning to visit the kids's grandma in Atlanta by Christmas though.... Hope we can plan that through.

Fletch: Nice set of bow and arrow, and feather. Your bow+ arrow set reminding me of watching some PowWow events on Youtube. Do you think sketching as a spectator will be an OK thing to do.

Joan: Let's try to meet and go sketching at PowWow together. Hope there is one, not far from your area in NY.

Jo: Enjoy your fun reunion days... I'd like to take it slow too... especially on my birthday... hahaha

Fletch, wow on your bow and feather. I really like that. You have a touch, now.

Hi, Ai. Wish we had been able to get together in Alabama. Don't think I can make Atlanta. Maybe something will change.

I sketched here at my computer desk in the large Canson sketchbook with Micron 05 and watercolor.
Number 2 pine cone and Number 3 green - a little velvet jewelry box with a zipper.

Jo: Hahaha .... don't worry about our physical trip... I understand. Just be grateful that we can still converse through our little arts here. Love your wc set ... I love your background tone and your shadow on the pinecone is very nice.

Ai, thanks. I love those baskets of fruit...they look so colorful and tempting! I've always wondered about sketching at a pow-wow, but I'm not quick sketching people. I should practice more! I always go for the people staying still if possible.

Jo, being indoors gave me a little time to get to the hunt items I haven't been getting to lately. Hope you and your friend had a good time catching up. Nice sketch of the pine cone and the zippering jewelry box.

Fletch, I know you are always able to find feathers to sketch in your house. Hope things are quieter and you get more time to do art.
