Scavenger Hunt #135 - Oct 26 - Nov 3

Grapes - Well no question your oils are excellent. So do what you enjoy and share happy results with us Hell share the unhappy ones too!!

Joan - You can ski in Venice? What am I missing?

Joan, it's dark early as we changed clocks already. When do you charge time in US?
Halloween is not so commonly celebrated in Europe. It's similar everywhere in Europe as what you see in Venice. But I like it and I'm glad 😊 I find more Halloween 🎃 👻 stuff around me every year. My friends even have Halloween parties.

Fletch, I will. Both good 😊 and bad ones! 👍 Thank you for encouragement!
Let's all paint what we want and use whatever medium. 🎨

Fletch, ski??

Grapes, the clocks home change this weekend…just in time for us to get home.

Joan, Lovely sketches from Venice. The gondola repair place is very special. I remember seeing it when passing by. I like the details of the first windows painting.

Joan & Fletch, maybe the word "ski" was meant to be "sketch"? Sometimes my phone keyboard changes some words for me .. tricky thing.

Grapes, I brought along a special light like musicians use to light my page at night. I didn’t end up using it because I painted from the living room window.

I woke up at 5:15 this morning and couldn’t fall back asleep. I did this nocturnal looking out the living room window just before sunrise.
18 - free space #2 - direct watercolor

Serial lurker here. So glad this hunt exists. Your collected works are very inspiring. Thanks.

Joan: Amazing sketches Joan. You got all Venice textures (wood + brick + boats) down so beautifully. May I ask you to share the gondola boat yard place from you.... It will be in my future visit and sketch bucket list. Thanks in advance.

All: Happy Halloween !!! Boo !!! :devilish:🎃👹

Grapes, grazie!

Ai, thanks. The repair shop is at the Academia stop. Follow to the right side along Rio San Trovaso. Walk almost all the way up along the canal, nearly to the end.

We leave Venice and take the train to Milan this morning. We fly home tomorrow morning. Of course I am up too early so I had time to sketch something.

19 - cup - Procreate

Ai, I saw the gondola repair place also in a Venice map. That's how you find it!
Happy Halloween back 🎃 🎃 🎃!

Joan, nice cup! Enjoy your time in Milan! Isn't there the peculiar looking cathedral? Gothic era? Now that would be something to draw/paint!

Good to know about the clock change I try to keep in mind .. I have zoom meetings with my friends in US. Some years I miss the meeting because of the mess of the time change as we in Europe change way before so the meeting begins in that case different hour. 🤔 I don't like these time changes.

Ai, do you change clocks ⏰ to winter times in Thailand?

Grapes, grazie. We are staying in a hotel at the Milan airport because our flight is early tomorrow. We won’t be in the city itself. Maybe another time. Here in Italy the changed the clocks last weekend. It confuses things.

Joan: Thanks. Safe trip home... beautiful cup. Thanks for the place name and direction of the gondola yard. I don't know how it slipped off my mind...I felt like we might have strolled pass it, but with young Lily, I did not stop fully for a sketch.

Grapes & Joan: We were there with young kids at that time and we got lost so often on our map. Besides, we were there only for a few nights, so most of the day; we highlighted our map each day the favorite sweet shop & cafe... so I hardly venture out alone to any big time sketch location .... only a short moment when my kids took naps. My kids loved gelato, esp. at Burano...lol... they also danced up-and-down when they saw Burano colors. The local colors must have excited them.... Thailand is a hot climate country... most of any day, temp is around 70-100 Degree Fahrenheit... so we don't change clock to winter time.

JennieJo: Hello

Ai, I hope you get to sketch it on another trip. I can’t imagine trying to sketch on a trip with young kids.

Done on the train to Milan.

Joan, nice travel sketches!

#6 Blue - Rialto - A bell bought from Basilica di San Marco
Oils on a poor canvas piece. Size: very small (both the model and the painting)

Grapes, thanks. What a nice sketch of the bell from the Basilica.

I did a sketch on the plane coming home today, but never got around to taking a photo of it. We got home around 4 today and shortly thereafter I got the horrible news that my brother had passed away. This is the brother I got to see in Venice recently. My heart is breaking! I am so thankful that we got to see him while they were traveling.

Joan! 😓❤️‍🩹 🫂
I'm sorry to hear about your brother. This is terrible news for you. My condolences. 🫂 🙏

#7 flower 🌺 - my November cactus is blooming now.

I wanted to try oils to the same sketch book where l did gouache sketches. Oils seem to work just fine on this paper. No priming, just directly oils. Exact size: 15x21 cm (6x8 in), oils on paper. Drawing + painting time: 45 min.
I used color called Kaplak Rose from Old Holland because I couldn't find my Quinacridone Rose which would have been the closest to this flower color. I can always paint over when the tube appears.
This was interesting trying to paint on this paper, l honestly didn't think it would function with oils.
