Welcome to the Scavenger Hunts from Life. The Hunts were started in 2006 by Jamie Williams Grossman as a way to practice with prompts. Artists have come and gone while forming some lasting friendships. We hope you will join in and tune up your sketching skills. All levels and techniques are welcome. We hope you can have some good times here. You can travel the world seeing the sketches of items at hand by the artists.

If you’ve participated in at least one Scavenger Hunt and have time to host one we would really appreciate it. You can sign up by posting your name on the current hosting schedule in the Art From Life forum here:

https://creativespark.art/threads/scavenger-hunt-from-life-host-sign-up-list.2481/

Here are the rules for the Hunt:

  • All everyday common items on the list must be sketched from life – not imagination or photo reference.
  • Each object you draw can count for only one item on the list, no matter how many shapes/parts/colors that object contains. This was agreed on by unanimous vote among the participants.
  • You may place multiple objects together in a drawing or painting, and may count these objects as separate items, but no single object can count for more than one item.
  • All items posted must be numbered. Count them as you go. The first item you post will be #1 regardless of its place on the list. Do them in whatever order you wish, but count them in the order in which you sketch them, from 1 to 26.
  • Do as many or as few of the items as you like. You don’t have to finish the entire list to participate. The Scavenger Hunt “week” will last for 9 days, with the next hunt starting on the 9th day.
  • Please tell us your size, surface, medium, and the amount of time it took you for each sketch. We love hearing about your subjects and setups. Photos of your subjects are welcome.
  • Have fun!
*** If you have some hunt sketches completed but little time to read/comment, please post your sketches anyway. Commenting is appreciated but not required.

Thanks for the list Jo.

Today Tone helped driving me to see lots of pink trees in bloom at Kasetsat Univ, Kampangsaen Campus. There were millions of people...but we walked to the quiet end to sketch a little while.

Ai, your pink flower painting is beautiful!

my #1 is "three of something"
3 little succulent plants that sit on the coffee table: 6 in x 4 in, colored pencils and a fountain pen that doesn't want to work...

Ai, your painting of the flowers in bloom is so lovely. The colors make me feel better and think about spring coming soon. We had a dreary day today with some light snow. I want your weather. lol

Stephanie, I love how you have the succulents grouped together. You made a nice composition for sketching them. (y)

Look at you all go!

Hi Fletch and Grapes.

Ai, your location at the pink trees is so nice. Your sketch is full of life. I like the shadows.

Stephanie, your succulent plants are lovely. I like Terracotta pots. I like the looseness of lines and the color.

Joan, Awww, I just love barns and sheds. The roof is fun to see, probably not nice for them. Great color.

Thanks all for your kind comments of my pink trees sketch.

Joan: Here it is hot most of the day... but pink flower trees seem to bloom in the super dry and season during Feb-March. Such a lovely barn with nice pots and garden details.

Stephanie: Wonderful 3 plant pots. I love the soft and soothing colors too.

Jo, thanks. I always like sketching buildings that are a little worn. They have more character.

Ai, those flowers look like peak springtime here. I need to see some color. lol

Stephanie, thanks. I love the way you combined the clothespin with the corner of the table. Nicely done!

Our forecast today was for fog and rain, so I made plans to sketch inside Hick's Nursery with my friend. At times it was pouring outside and the sound of it was intensified on the greenhouse ceiling. It was quite comfortable inside.
2 - flowers - watercolors and ink

Then we headed to Starbucks for coffee and a sketch. I think the rain kept most of the people away. For most of the time we were there it was the staff and the two of us.
3 - three people - watercolors and ink

Joan: Such a fantastic opportunity that you and your art friends, can turn the fog and rain day into glorious day of art making. I can feel the fresh soothing of rain sound along your paint strokes. Awesome artworks on both but the details of Starbucks are superb.

Stephanie, excellent job on the clothespin. I like your shading.

Joan, we went for icecream and looked for a barn. Only found one good one and couldn't get a place to park where I could see the "stuff". Maybe today or tomorrow. I really like the flowers. So different and lively looking. The Starbucks sketch is so good. I'm smiling.

Ai, good find on the different perfume bottles. Nice angles and shapes.

I sketched on my iPad while listening to the baseball game. Used the app, Brushes, and my fingers.

Number 1, spicy - New Mexico chile, yummmmmm.

Ai, I like the lines on your perfume bottles. Nicely done from a slightly unusual angle. Nice clothes pins too!

Jo, thanks. I sat by the bromeliads hoping it would transport me to someplace tropical. I think a piña colada would have helped. lol I like your chili jar! I'm sure you use it for something yummy.
