Christmas Trade 2024

Cougars will sleep up in trees so even in daylight you could walk under one without knowing it's there. Believe me, the cougar would know you're there, though. The creek is right on the perimeter of the park, and just a few feet up the creek from us (when I say "us" I mean all who live here) but from me, it's quite close and huge cougar tracks show where they drink from the creek. The state appoints certain people as predator watch so that when they cause a problem, he can be called to come out and deal with the problem. Recently he had a scare. He had gone to deal with a cougar who had killed someone's sheep or goats and he went up to set the trap, but then just 5 minutes later, the cougar was already in the trap. That meant it had been there watching him!

I respect how he does it, though, because the trap he sets isn't meant to do anything but hold the cougar. It has no teeth and he showed in a video that he could put his own hand in it and not be hurt. Then when he goes back to see if the cougar has come and gotten caught in the trap, he can kill it, but this way the cougar won't be caught in a tight trap with teeth and have to suffer till someone finds them.

Cougars kill their prey, eat all they can hold amd then scrape debris over the rest and pee or defecate on it to mark it as belonging to him or her. Then they come back later to feed on it while it lasts. They're very possessive with the kill and they don't take it kindly if anyone or any other animal comes around it so that's why it shook the predator guy knowing that one cougar had been so close while he set the trap

There are wolves not far away now too. My neighbor the bear hunter (lol) said there's a pack that's already come up into our area now. Oregon is trying to repopulate the state with it's native wildlife and they're keeping track of what happens to the ones they've started packs of. When I first came here, they were only in Douglas county but were moving north. Lane County is where I am, and Corey said he's seen them further south in Lane County now, so I guess probably we'll start seeing them eventually. And now there's talk of grizzlies---at that point, I'll be relocating I think. :censored:

Holiday Freeze.jpg

Not sure if this is the one I sent to Ellen. I'm not at home until next Sunday as we are out of state so can't check the mailing list.

Some people are very good at capturing a scene so well with apparent ease, and still be loose without overworking a scene! And I can just picture the kind of day that you painted Kay. Very nice.🙂

I just love it! It's so beautiful!

Today I got yours, Christine. So cheerful and beautifully done. Thank you so much!

And another one from Sandra (Sanlyn). Such a fun and excellently done one as well. Thank you, too!

I'm going to frame all of these and the other ones from the Exchange too.

I'm sorry I forgot to tell you---yes that's the one you sent me, Kay. It's a fascinating painting. I love the colors and I even like the paper you used. On the back, I think you said it was Canson. I've never used that brand but I like it. I really enjoy using hot press paper and that's what it feels like to me.

You’re welcome,, Ellen. So happy it made it to you. Hopefully the others made it across the border before the strike. I won’t be receiving any until the strike is over. Gives me something to look forward to in the New Year.
Ellen’s card.

Sanlynn thank you for the ornament card, I think it is so pretty. I like the way you used the watercolor paper on the corrugated background and of course the colors, I tried to send out your cards but my post office wouldn’t take it until your postal strike is over. Hopefully soon.

Christine, I just love this card. It will find a special place in my Victorian house. Such a fun and cheery card. Thank you again. Like I mentioned in post to Sanlynn tried to send out Canadian cards but the post office wouldn’t take them.

Oh I am so glad you liked it. She’s sweet and has character just like all the ladies you paint and yourself!🙂
I was trying to find some inspiration this year for my cards. And I found it in the unlikeliest of places. Maybe not original, but I thought it would be fun to paint. I was on Facebook marketplace looking for something else, and of course people are already starting to list old Christmas stuff they wanted to sell. And I saw this little figurine. I changed a few little things about it, but I thought it was cute.
I totally understand about the mailing situation. I think the US has told Canada it’s not going to hold onto all that mail for the duration of the strike and I can totally see why. Who has the space for that??
I look forward to getting cards whenever they get here. It might be quite cheerful in the quiet of January!
