I suppose this one is mixed media. I originally painted it in acrylic and years later decided to update it with oils. Some of the acrylic is still there but much of it is now oils. Next more mixed media.
Oh she was great! I lucked out and had her for 3 of my 4 years. I didn't like the other art teacher I had in my first year. She'd tell me "You can't possibly do this because you're young" when I chose more difficult subject matter. Whereas this teacher would encourage me to go further with my work. She's why I got to go to University for an art course during highschool (classes were on weekends), and why my works got into a few exhibitions. She chose me for a post-secondary art program as well, but I turned it down thinking I'd never make a career of it. I wanted my friend at the time to get the spot and she was the second choice. So my turning it down got her in and I knew she really wanted an art career.
Part of me regrets it though. I wonder where I'd be today had I done it? I wonder where she is today too. Maybe still teaching? She was a younger lady at the time. She was a great artist too. I remember she was working on a large nighttime cityscape of LA? Vegas? It was quite impressive. I believe her husband was an artist too.
That was very kind of you to step aside for your friend. And that sound like a wonderful art teacher. A wonderful teacher period. oh yes, we always wonder about the roads not traveled. But try not to be hard on yourself. You did something really good for someone who wanted it. That says a lot about your character.
That’s lovely, Donna! Exquisite. I like the overall soft blue/purples of this piece.
I’m starting to forget which pieces I’ve shown before. I’m not sure if I’ve shown you this.
Next: winter theme
Love that. I can practically feel the air, the kind of day it was! Striking piece.
Christmas card done for an exchange. The polar bear photo I used for a reference was not mine. Unsure whose photo it was now.
Next..more winter!
