Scavenger Hunt from Life #82: Aug 30 - Sep 7

Welcome to the Scavenger Hunts from Life.

The Hunts were started in 2006 by Jamie Williams Grossman as a way to practice with prompts. Artists have come and gone while forming some lasting friendships. We hope you will join in and tune up your sketching skills. All levels and techniques are welcome. We hope you can have some good times here. You can travel the world seeing the sketches of items at hand by the artists.

If you’ve participated in at least one Scavenger Hunt and have time to host one we would really appreciate it. You can sign up by posting your name on the current hosting schedule in the Art From Life forum here:

https://creativespark.art/threads/scavenger-hunt-from-life-host-sign-up-list.2481/

Here are the rules for the Hunt:
*All everyday common items on the list must be sketched from life – not imagination or photo reference.
*Each object you draw can count for only one item on the listless, no matter how many shapes/parts/colors that object contains. This was agreed on by unanimous vote among the participants.
*You may place multiple objects together in a drawing or painting, and may count these objects as separate items, but no single object can count for more than one item.
*All items posted must be numbered. Count them as you go. The first item you post will be #1 regardless of its place on the list. Do them in whatever order you wish, but count them in the order in which you sketch them, from 1 to 26.
*Do as many or as few of the items as you like. You don’t have to finish the entire list to participate. The Scavenger Hunt “week” will last for 9 days, with the next hunt starting on the 9th day.
*Please tell us your size, surface, medium, and the amount of time it took you for each sketch. We love hearing about your subjects and setups. Photos of your subjects are welcome.

*Have fun!

*** If you have some hunt sketches completed but little time to read/comment, please post your sketches anyway. Commenting is appreciated but not required!

Near my bed time... so I'll try something quick here...

#1 body parts ... drawn using Microsoft Paint with a mouse.

Fletch, thanks for the new list. Hope you are OK down there. Lots of flooding from the storm surge from what I've seen on the news.

Ai, nice digis of your foot and hand.

Ai - You did that with a mouse! Tried using a mouse once it looked more like a blind contour done with non-dominant hand.

EP, Ned, jo and Joan 👋🏽

let’s get sketching!
Fletch

Ai - what body position would you be in to have your hand next to your foot? LOL!!
Joan - oh ho a sketch of another artist at work! Cool! Mmmm view across the bridge :)

Joan: Such exquisit sketches, especially the griwing tree tunnel.

#1c -- more on body part...done with a gel pen on scrap office paper

EP: Thanks...it was not a problem, they were my left side...so I can position them on my desk... lol

Joan - Great proportions on the artist. Am with Ai…Love the tunnel was going to comment on the textured bridge, the zillion shades of green ,the great job on the compression of tree trunks, but list was getting too long.

EP - Think it is pretty obvious that among Ai’s many talents she’s a contortionist!

Ai - great hatching on the hand.

Keep sketching

Ai, your body parts are good with a mouse. I liked your comments back and forth with Fletch and you can put them on your desk! The gel sketch of your hand is so good, love the hatching.

Joan, you have some great finds. The body part and open sketch is fun. The bridge tunnel is gorgeous.

EP, I like sketching other sketchers. They usually stay in one spot for a while.

Ai, thanks! Another hand sketch...cool!

Fletch, glad you appreciate my greens. I painted the background greens before it changed as evening took over. We met to sketch at 6:00 and by 6:30 that light was gone.

Jo, thanks so much. I'm glad I found the bridge area. It is at a preserve and I really don't like the place for painting because there is so much green with nothing to focus on.

#1 candle - this is a strangely slopped hexagon shaped candle. Drawn in multiple grades of graphite in a roughly A5 sized sketchbook. Thought the shape would be a challenge and it was also the shading was weird it did not get progressively darker like a cyclinder. The closest side was almost as dark as the segment away from the light. Took a closeup but of the candle to try to show what I meant about the shading. Looking at the photo I got so focused on the sides I did a poor job on the the top. 🤣

#2 growing ... after another health check -up at the hospital, Tone and I had a brief moment, at a cafe by a canal, in another green area of Bangkok. .... done in directwatercolor in a cheapo sketchbook.

Ai,Great find for growing. Love your greens. We have doctors check ups next week. Good to get it all over at once. Ha.

I sketched in the BookFactory sketchbook on the porch with a Micron 02 and added some red Micron to the candle.
Number 1, Bell - was red and green but was fired in the big fire, now off white and black.
Number 2, book Number 3, candle Number 4, texture - carpet and wood Number 5, growing - the geranium is not growing much in this heat Number 6, seasonal - temperature on the rain gauge, only 82 at 8:48 am Will be 103 today.
