Scavenger Hunt from Life #165: Jul 13- 25

Joan, great start. the neocolors on my screen look almost like embroidery. Fun and beautiful. I understand the bother, though. The coffeehouse is lovely. Umbrellas are always a good find to perk up the scene. Like the people.

Ai, thanks for the Hunt. The old building is interesting and you got the lines very nicely.

Pine Cone, you are definitely finding your lines. Interesting how the texture of the paper shows more in the top photo. Nice pencil, too. I never worry about accuracy in lines as you know too well. Joe explains it well. Maybe I will listen this time. Ha.

I sketched at the physical therapy place. They have fun tissue boxes.
Number 1 soft, the tissue and Number 2 useful, the hand sanitizer Number 3, half free space. The lady left before I even finished the outline. She was standing neatly and the shoes had fun design and texture. In the small Canson regular paper sketchbook with the Micron 03.

I love this style, Jo.

There are many artists here experienced in many mediums. As you obviously know there are lots of good tutorials on youtube. a personal favorite is thevirtualinstructor. I like his style and he has ebooks that go along with videos.. I think you have also come upon a group who believe you can never have enough art supplies 😂😂 but reality all you need to learn or create art is paper and a pen or pencil. There are some amazing pieces drawn with a regular ballpoint pen on the net. Think everyone here will tell you the best thing you can do is to just draw.

Pine Cone - here is a good example of screwing up the planes the bear is sitting on a different plane than the book under him. Problem was not lines. The problem was stopping, moving in the middle and not looking at total image until the end.😎

#1 book. Teddy bear reading a book sitting on a stack of books and a box. Multiple grades of graphite in pocket sketchbook

Jade, welcome to the hunts. What a cute looking cat! Good job!! I always wish I had an animal around to sketch...but that hasn't happened.

Jo, thanks. I have two nearly finished pieces. You'll see both of them here today. lol I like the reflections of the shed and the trees in the glass table top. Well done. It is a smart idea to go out early before it gets too hot. Having coffee and a sketch to start the day sounds good.

Fletch, cute sketch of the bear sitting on the books. You (or Sharon) seem to have a sizable collection of bears to sketch. I always enjoy seeing them.

Yesterday I worked on a plein air piece for the paint-out. It is almost finished.
4 - car - watercolors
5 - from nature (trees and plants)

Today I have to be at another campus, closer to Bangkok mud sea...So even the campus has several brackish ponds, tons of mangrove trees, and commorant water birds.

At another recreation outdoor table, I spotted more further away commorant, drying his wings and some fishes.

Jade, Fletch: Thanks so much.

Fletch: super job on the graphite of the book bear.

Joan: Such marvelous plein aire piece, gorgeous down to the chalk board. The boat scene is truly amazing and exciting.

2 - “from nature” - indecipherable far shore of a pond

In my Re-learning To Draw Plan, I’m nowhere near able to do a landscape again yet. And this is the proof. I need lots more work on basics before I can go back to something like this.

I actually was just going to do a small plant area, but at the last minute, the spot where I had to sit got taken by two guys practicing for fishing. So I ended up feeling overwhelmed, but trying anyway with the indecipherable quick lines I’m posting below.

And the strange thing is, I still had fun. And even if I can never draw like I remember, I can still love every minute, and cherish days wandering about in a peaceful place on this beautiful little planet.

— Pentel mechanical pencil (0.5)

— Cheap sketchbook by PenGear (from WalMart)

— freehand

And here are my “Notes to Self” so I’ll be able to remember what I was trying to draw lol — and full disclosure 😂 …… the ducks are rasterized emojis 😍

#3 made from wood... A high chair, rustic type, for someone at info. desk...I used a GellyRoll pen and went over with a waterbrush.

Jade: consistency is the key IMHO and just enjoy the process and your art moment. Having too many kinds of art materials may not help any artists to guarantee artistic growth. I had bought too many art materials over the years, and now realize that and start to declutter my art room and start donating some away for good. I definitely enjoy sharing my art here and I think I have learned so much thru the years.

Thanks Fletch, I'll check out the virtual instructor. Luckily I have a very wise husband that reminded me I didn't need to go out and buy loads of supplies.. so tempting!

I've come across the hyper realistic artists using a bic pen.. Incredible.

I love your teddy bear drawing.. 🤩

Really good advice. 👌 Kind of where I'd started coming to. The nice thing is it's just an enjoyment and learning hobby so I keep reminding myself to have fun! 😊 Good to hear you get a lot from being here.. I'm impressed with the community and support I have encountered so far. ❤️

Hi,

Hope there's room here for beginners.

1 - fruit 🍐

1000010690.jpg

Cappuccino pad, A5 (but I think the fruits are maybe around 3x2in + 4x5in),

umm, inktense, tombow and karin markers, neocolors, supracolor and...maybe luminance (?),

10-15 minutes?

Thank you for the hunt!

Ai, I love your cormorant and especially the fish in the pond. They are so quick moving. Great job! I like the sketch of the chair and the shading you got when you added water. Thanks for your comments about the boat painting. I know from past experience that in the summer they do sailing lessons with the kids there in the morning. I went early to sketch them while they were still on land, because I knew in a short while the kids would carry them all down to the water and they would be gone until the lessons were over. Then I concentrated on all the "stuff" that was left behind. I also took a photo reference just in case I needed it.

Pine Cone, your quick sketch (before the fishermen arrived) gave a perfect amount of detail to your landscape, and your "supposed to be a tree" actually does look like a tree with the trunk. Don't sell yourself short! I love that you wrote notes for yourself...and added the colorful ducks.

Jade, thank you. Remember with your own art it is important to enjoy yourself and play. You can do it with any kind of art materials, just continue to do it. That's how you get better...practice is so important.

Marigolddd, welcome to the hunts. I'm glad to see you grabbed a few materials to sketch your colorful fruit. Join us anytime...or all the time.

Ai, thanks. Fun to have moving models. Ha. The cormorant is a super fine find. Fish, too. Thanks for the lovely photos!! Clever to use the water brush on the stool. Love that look.

Fletch, thanks as always. Your teddy bear is so cute on the books. You did my trick of placement. We live and learn. Don't always follow through. Heh, heh.

Joan, thanks. Your scene with the shade flags and car is super. You always find the "hot spot" in a scene. Pretty flowers, too. Yes, the sailboats are very exciting. You did a great job on them.

Pine Cone, You definitely made me smile this morning. Love your sketch, it is beautiful and peaceful. You are remembering the important stuff!

marigolddd, The fruit are fun to see. We all start our art trip at different times. You are most welcome here. I like your colors especially.
