Scavenger Hunt from Life #188: Apr 15- Apr 27

Welcome to the Scavenger Hunts from Life.
The Hunts were started in 2006 by Jamie Williams Grossman as a way to practice with prompts. Artists have come and gone while forming some lasting friendships. We hope you will join in and tune up your sketching skills. All levels and techniques are welcome. We hope you can have some good times here. You can travel the world seeing the sketches of items at hand by the artists.

If you’ve participated in at least one Scavenger Hunt and have time to host one we would really appreciate it. You can sign up by posting your name on the current hosting schedule in the Art From Life forum here:

https://creativespark.art/threads/scavenger-hunt-from-life-host-sign-up-list.2481/page-10

Here are the rules for the Hunt:
All everyday common items on the list must be sketched from life – not imagination or photo reference.

  • Each object you draw can count for only one item on the list, no matter how many shapes/parts/colors that object contains. This was agreed on by unanimous vote among the participants.
  • You may place multiple objects together in a drawing or painting, and may count these objects as separate items, but no single object can count for more than one item.
  • All items posted must be numbered. Count them as you go. The first item you post will be #1 regardless of its place on the list. Do them in whatever order you wish, but count them in the order in which you sketch them, from 1 to 26.
  • Do as many or as few of the items as you like. You don’t have to finish the entire list to participate. The Scavenger Hunt “week” will last for 12 days, with the next hunt starting on the 12th day.
  • Please tell us your size, surface, medium, and the amount of time it took you for each sketch. We love hearing about your subjects and setups. Photos of your subjects are welcome.
  • Have fun!
*** If you have some hunt sketches completed but little time to read/comment, please post your sketches anyway. Commenting is appreciated but not required.

Hi Ai & Jo. Hoping to get busy with the hunt today. Heading to the Arboretum with friends this morning to paint the cherry trees in bloom there. See you later.

Hi, Ned. The last hunt did seem to go by quickly.

I don't know if anyone had the same problem as me yesterday, but I couldn't get into the site at all. I tried from my computer, iPad, and phone and both on Safari and Chrome...no deal. Glad to be able to post this morning.

These were both done at the Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay yesterday. It was a perfect day to be outside with a few other artists.

Relaxing with the ladies after a day of painting and sketching.

Joan: So awesome of all the painter ladies with the pink blossoms. Wonderful sketches of them. Such a gorgeous way to start this Hunt.

Thanks, Ai. It was a treat to all get together yesterday. Usually we just meet in the city, but this was a good location for all of us to meet without having to take the train anywhere. It gave us a chance to sit and talk a bit at the end of the day too. We have another beautiful day today, but so far I've spent the entire morning sweeping and straightening the inside of the garage. Now I can hardly move. Instead I'm sitting on the patio with my computer.

Ned, yes, the Hunts seem to go faster all the time.

Fletch and I had the same problem, Joan. Beautiful pink blossoms. Fun to see you with your friends. I'm smiling. The shells are beautiful and as Ai says, you can see the pearly look inside and texture outside. Well done!

Maybe I'll get started tomorrow.

Ai, thanks. I've been watching some of the sessions from Sketchbook Revival and Koosjie Koene had one that I liked. I can't find time to do all the workshops, but have been trying to watch most of them.

Jo, thank you. It is funny but we rarely all get to gather closer to home. lol Hope you get to sketch.

I took a day off to go sketching with a friend at a small island in the middle of Chaophraya river, called KohKred. It's so far from my home (south end of Bangkok) to the northern provincial neighbor of Bangkok. I took interesting long boat trip.
#1 sweet ... a set of local Thai jasmine rice summer dish called KhaoChae ( in the middle and right). The rice bowl seems pale blue from soaking the cooked white rice in butterfly pea flowers.solution. ...The patch of top-right is a sketch from my memory of the leaning pagoda ( with red fabric wrap) , a prominent landmark of KohKred area.

#2 soft ... a dish of watermelon balls with some sugar topping ( on left)

#3 animals ...local fish breeds near our express boat, while waiting to leave from the pier

#4 landscape ...an old wooden building at Nontaburi pier

AI, you make the food look so delicious. Aside from blueberries or food containing blueberries I don't think I've seen blue foods. That looks so different. I love the fish by the dock. Nice work on the building. What kind of boat took you to the island?

Robin, I like your squishy creature. That box looks like you are set to put it on a table for a BBQ. Now you know where my head is. lol Nice work!

Hi people 👋

I don’t know what happened….. but after CS almost went away, and then got saved, I was exhausted, and somehow a bunch of events got past me….. I feel bad, I wanted so much to respond to your kind words, but I’ve been too exhausted…..

But I think about all of you every day ☀️🎨

And finally today I did a wild sketch, just to be able to post something, but this is another one that may benefit from *dark* sunglasses 😁

Details are in the attachment.

Joan -- fun to see you with friends at the cherry blossoms! In the shells, the subtle greens, oranges, yellows and purples with the dark shadows make them really nice.

Ai -- The bright colored collection of foods looks great. I really like the fish sketches from different perspectives. :) like often happens with your sketches, I like your sketch of the building at the pier better than real life. Like the dramatic sky and colorful lamps.

Robin -- the squishy sheep made me smile. NIce job on the box.

Pine Cone -- hi! like the nice bright colors and somehow cheerful sketch!

Jo -- hi! I was planning to go to baseball tomorrow, but after kind of a long day today I think I'll go Sunday instead. I see your team is still in the top 5.

I sketched today on the way home from hiking and fishing... will post it later or tomorrow...
