Wow this is great how many are here for this hunt! Greetings from Michigan! Hi to Jade and Marigolddd great to see you both here! My wife and daughter met me here and brought a beautiful postcard that Ai sent, thanks Ai! I'll probably be back for the next hunt.

Pine Cone - a picture is worth a thousand words.

jade;- was reading this months issue of Color magazine and saw this image of a cat drawn in color pencil and instantly thought of Bob and you. From your drawing this is how I imagine he looks and then thought this how you will be able to draw him with practice and patience... (The hatching style you deciphered is called contour hatching. Key to giving form to a shape.)

Ai - sentimental value is the best value to keep. So kewl you and the ladies were in the urban sketching book.

Jo - love the pastel and the amazing ink of the hand drawing a hand which made me think of Escher.

Oh I love that Fletch, thank you.. you're spot on as that really looks like bob (down to the massive paws ) .. it is an amazing drawing. It would very cool if I end up doing something like that. I'm saving that image as inspiration...

Thank you Fletch. He's a wonderful boy, he brings us happiness every day with his love (and antics!). Yes, I found the artist who made it.. so amazing. Coincidentally I have a book coming from the library about drawing realistic pictures of animals.

#2 bowl. Old ceramic bowl we inherited from Sha’s grandmother. Seeing Pine Cone drawing with .5 mm seemed a challenge as it has been a while since I used thin lead pencil. Not as symmetrical as I had envisioned. After completing it in graphite I thought it really need a touch of color so added some color pencil over the graphite. Think the color added a lot.

Jada, Sema Martin is a terrific animal artist. Many here may not know her story but she gave up a career in Aerospace Engineering at NASA to become a professional artist.

I really like your sketches Fletch. I am learning when to leave areas "white" to create light and form, in sketching. You've done this well here.

Sema's work is beautiful too, thank you. Sometimes the thought of being able to draw like that feels far away but of course, it is possible and I'm enjoying learning so that helps. I think loving cats so much also helps me to want to keep drawing them.

Ned, hi! So glad you are with your family like you planned...and with Ai's postcard too.

Jade, Bob is really a cutie! It will be fun to see how you sketch him in the future. Animal sketching isn't the easiest thing to do.

Fletch, nice work on the bowl! Treasures from grandparents are special. I have a similar bowl that belonged to my mom. Maybe I'll pull it out and sketch it. I'll have to practice my ellipses first. LOL

I was working on my painting of the town that I showed you yesterday, so I only had a little time to get something sketched on the way home.

Jade, I hope you keep taking anything I say as encouragement. My drawing is far from perfect. I did a coffee table book for my daughter and worked much harder on my sketches/drawings. Now I'm back to my free hand slap dash way. Just to get in a sketch. I admire artists that put in the work. Keep up the good work. Love the photo of Bob.

Fletch, that cat drawing is so good. I thought it was a photo. Your bowl is excellent. I like the added color, too. You know I love pottery.You work hard at drawing as well, applause!

Joan, you are so good with the continuous like. Those cars are amazing. The bench and biker is super I'm always amazed at how your give form with just lines and no shading.

I sketched at PT doing the ceiling with metal roof, and so many cross pieces. I got lost looking up, at least I will use that as an excuse.
Number 8 metal in the Canson plain paper sketchbook with a Micron 03.

#14 freespace #1 -- Tone went to a Thai-Chinese classic barber, where the barber shaved his face for him...besides giving him a haircut.

Jo - I really appreciate you taking the time to give feedback and the way you (and others here) do so. This is what I was hoping for .. I love growing and learning. I also sense a kindness in this little group that isn't always common in life.

Joan - your continuous drawing is really cute. I like the style that came out. I tried that for the first time yesterday which was very relaxing.

Yes, animal drawing does seem tricky in many ways though it's also amazing the tutorials I'm finding on YT re drawing fur and eyes etc which is giving me some hope!

Bob is quite a unique cat (proud fur parent lol) he seems to gather fans wherever he goes.. IRL and online. He's a wonderful model (between his naps)!

I'm not a natural rule breaker lol so I hope no-one minds me breaking the scavenger post rules to post bob again here I wanted to share a drawing I did today of the picture I shared of Bob with Fletch and you all yesterday here...




It's nice feeling some techniques coming together but also being able to see where I need to work on (eye direction, more precision). It feels exciting

I've done my morning drawing so taking a break to crochet instead

Jo, thanks so much. I get lost in sketches that have lots of pipes and stuff...especially up in the ceiling which makes it so much harder. Bravo to you for looking up!

Ai, your sketches look so good in that color ink. Is it sanguine or something else? I always enjoy your sketches of Tone at the barber. Jeff doesn't like going to the barber and always wants me to cut his hair. I wish he would agree to go so whoever works on him will do the little things that I can't figure out how to do safely. lol

Jade, thanks. I find that doing continuous line sketches makes my observational skills improve. I pay more attention to what is in front and what is behind and the relationships between objects. Don't worry about rules...we don't follow them too closely. You can sketch Bob as many times as you want. You just can't count the same part of the sketch for different items. His ears can only be counted one time unless you do a second sketch of him. But since he's so cute, I'm sure nobody will mind if he appears a lot.

Ai, you always have such lovely, unusual flowers to sketch. These have such small petals but you did them so well and separately. The leaves are nicely done and really make the petal colors pop!

Joan - I found that yesterday when I tried it on a picture of my bookcase.. it actually came out better than a "normal" sketch I'd done of it previously. Thanks re bobs.. I think he'll be here again!

Joan: Thanks so much... my humble ink is Pelikan 4001 - Brillant Brown, fountain pen ink. I forgot where I store my Noodler's Ink. Thanks for your kind support of my flowers... Yes, they are a bit challenge for me to paint. I had to find some similar flowers painting tutorials on youtube before started painting them. They are from my fence at home.
