This started off innocently enough as an abstract and then drips of black paint covered a yellow shape and once I saw these guys I couldn't unsee them. I know this is weird but it's also kind of freeing to go with the flow. I did try to keep some sense of abstraction. Acrylic on paper 10x10

the red flower that sort of breaks thru the mist gives depth and a point of focus and for me makes the painting.

Bongo, I was hoping that one flower would stand out. Thanks.

I’ve never done encaustic, Bart, but it seems very interesting! Thanks.

Grapes, I use thin glazes that I can either wipe back for soft effects or build on. Dissolving dried paint with rubbing alcohol also helps with certain effects. Thank you.

Donna, you can get that effect with Ceracolors, a cold water-soluble paint made and distributed by Natural Pigments. Not true encaustic and works very much like acrylics, but with advantages. Also very very archival. Worth looking into.

I’ve never heard of Ceracolors, Bart, but I just watched a YouTube demo and now I want to try them. They are worked from light to dark like watercolors and they can go on thin or thick depending on how much water is added. You can scratch through them too, which is always interesting. Thank you for pointing them out!
