Well, some of my artwork of things I’ve treasured has been put away, and I can’t get to right now. And some things I still have to paint. But I found this sketch I did when I was about 28 years old at our first house. We were so thrilled just to have a yard, I hardly noticed the house! In fact, the first thing I did after moving all the furniture in, was go to the backyard and do grass angels and then just laid in the sun, eyes closed, taking it all in. I’d come off a farm at 14 and I never ever adjusted to living in town or cities and definitely not in student residence, or later…apartments. I missed the grass and the land around me.
I mentioned this as I was laying on my stomach drawing this on a very hot day in my backyard. This was a very cute garden statue almost 2 feet high. We both thought she was pretty cute. I didn’t have any paints with me and the tulips were up.
I think that was a little bit of oil pastel which I’ve never felt comfortable using, for hints of colour. I got interrupted and closed my sketchbook and that’s all there was to that. But it represents a very happy time in my life, a very exciting time. Our first little house. So grateful. Heaven!
