It's been a while since I've posted! I had spent some weeks working on a pine marten drawing, which never quite got resolved and is currently at a standstill. While getting some space from that piece, I decided to do a small 8 x 7.5 inch piece of the Parnassius eversmanni butterfly. It's titled "The Mountain's Star", inspired by the fact that it's found in mountainous regions and is yellow colored.
The media I used were pastel pencils, graphite, black pen, rhinestones, and a vintage button on fabrics. I actually drew the butterfly on a separate piece of yellow fabric, which I cut out and adhered onto the brown fabric. I thought the brown fabric's pattern was a bit too busy to drop on top of - it would have been hard to get the butterfly to a bright yellow.
This took 1 week to do. I'm going to start a small moth piece shortly, hoping I can get that one done in about a week as well.
