All just planning images. Because it was just for fun, it's on burgandy card ♡

Heaven forbid, I've decided to sketch my 10 year old granddaughter. Now that I've started I want to finish it for her. I have read, researched ... ad nauseum but I can't turn my 'pre-knowledge' off. She has huge brown eyes and that's how I draw them. Way too big for a kids face. And, it looks too harsh.

I've tried geometric angle combination, every YT hint I can find. No luck. I'm only in the draft stage, and I'm changing the image as I think that adds extra complexity, she is looking up at 45 degree angle at a butterfly.

This morning's effort. Pastels, chalk on canvas from an oil pad

1000019703.jpg. A4 . She looks like a teenager here (her mother says I'm capturing her inner age :) ), I'm going to envision her as 5 years old in the next one. Might hit midway.

A hint that some artists use, is to turn your reference and your painting both upside down and work from what you see, not what you know. It helps with preconceived notions about a person.

Preconceived, that's it. Have been doing lots of sketched. Not giving up yet.
