"Skip" Lighthouse

This line and wash sketch was inspired by a painting that I saw on Pinterest. I fell in love with the way it had been painted. Pinterest did not state who the artist was. But an image search revealed that the painting that I admired so much had been done by William Skip Lawrence. That is why I'm calling this: "Skip" Lighthouse.

My sketch is approximately 11"×8" on sketchbook paper that appears to be around 250 gsm, but not ideally suited for watercolour work.

Hi Balaji. This is a really very good interpretation. Handling of washes is great. I did find the original and can see why you were inspired. Great job

I found the original too as I was looking at this artist’s work and am amazed at what you did! This loose, expressive style really suits you - and Skip Lawrence’s work is worth studying so thank you for pointing it out.

Love this painting Balaji. The paper may not have been perfect but the results are wonderful.

Excellent. I like your sketches and I like them even more when colored. I wish I could sketch like that.

Really outstanding use of soft and hard edges. It reminds me of the classic watercolorist Tony Couch, with whom I took my first workshop.

Murray, Donna, Anne, Jo, John, Margaret, & Joy...Thank you. :giggle: 🙏

Donna...I'll bear in mind that in your opinion this style suits me. I would love to make the style my own, but for now I am dependent on a reference to get me going.

John...I intend showing your comment to a dear friend who insists that I should stick to pen and ink. 😁

Joy...I checked out Tony Couch's paintings and I can see the similarity in style between Skip's and Tony's styles. Thank you. I plan to spend more time looking at his work.
