Scavenger Hunt from Life #158 - April 28 - May 6

Oooo, how soon I get behind.

Ai, fun to see Mill Lily in your sketch and some food all lit up. Makes me smile.

Joan, ha, love the bike. Isn't that what happens when sketching live folks. The uphill sketch is so good, you can see the rise of land. Mmmmm, good. The meeting is well done. I like you captured the flag by the speaker.

Robin, the "top" is very interesting. I have a couple of jars like that. Clever find. The bottom is well done, too. I like Irish Cream and whipped cream in coffee .. rich treat! Your page with the letters, numbers is great. I like your thoughts.

Fletch, I like the thermos and that you shared your ideas about sketching from life. It's always been the best thing for me. Great shading and colors.

Hey, Ned. Welcome home. Can't believe it is May already. We only have 2 more weekends of regular baseball.

We went to the Songwriter Serenade yesterday in Schulenberg, Texas. It was a contest. There were 15 entries from all over the country. The winner was Brittany Ann Tranbaugh from Philadelphia, PA. It was a nice day and fun to see a few friends and listen to new music. I sketched a little in the small travel sketchbooks.
Number 1 outdoors with watercolors and Micron 03
Number 2 blue - shirt and jeans of a couple of patrons
Number 3 face - well sort of a couple of patrons and a singer

Robin, some fun sketches and one scary, pointy object!

Ned, I did most of the sketch while we were waiting before the town hall started. I left a spot for him to stand. (Didn't know if he'd use the mic or the podium.) Sketched him quickly and then finished at home. Welcome home!

Fletch, thanks so much. Glad you are still popping in.

Jo, thanks. Glad you had the opportunity to sketch outdoors. Love the couple in their chairs. Nothing like fun poses of people.

The weather today called for showers/rain at times but I wanted to sketch anyway. I sat in my car outside the fence of a garden center. I was focused on the people in line, not the flowers. lol
15 - faces - watercolor and ink
16 - tops of the buildings

By the time I was finished the rain had started and this was my view.

Joan, thank you. It was good to be out. Look at you sketching in the rain. (We would love to share some water!) I love the folks in line. You even got a sore or broken foot. Nice footwear and faces. Such good finds and you take advantage of cars and all. You are good to finish, too, later or at home. I'm always impressed.

Jo -- time sure flies! I like those figures at the bottom especially.

Joan -- that line of people is great... the postures look so natural it's like we're there. :) seems like I left NY just in time to miss the rain.

At a garden style cafe nearby Lily's school today. We had to wait here for picking up Lily from her school.....Done in directwatercolor

Jo, thanks. I loved seeing the guy with the foot brace on the line. I started with him. lol They keep forecasting rain here, but we barely get showers. We need any rain we can get.

Ned, thank you. Hope your trip to NY was good.

Ai, you had a nice spot to wait by Lily's school and you took advantage of the view. Nice!!

It was a rainy day today so I went to my local library to find an indoor spot to sketch. They have a small cafe where you can get coffee and a snack.

17 - corner of a room - watercolors and ink
18 - hot coffee

Joan - wow there are a lot of details in that, well done. Really nice selection of food for a library! And, yes thanks my trip to NY was fantastic... I heard my daughter perform her senior project concert singing classical pieces accompanied by piano. She was great. Almost needed the tissues in my pocket, but the flood gates didn't quite open all the way :)

Ned, thank you! I'm glad your daughter's senior performance went so well. Sounds like she's very talented. Do you sing too?

Hahaha! No, I don't sing and I get nervous and don't like public speaking or being in front of even a small group of people. She stands by herself in front of an audience and sings. I have no idea where she got that from! She sang mostly in German, and then in Swedish, Norwegian, Spanish, and English. When they study classical voice, they take special "diction" classes to learn to sing in different languages. It's amazing really. Lots of work for years to get to where she is now.

See you in the next hunt! :)

Ned, thanks. Welcome home. Wonderful about your daughters singing and that you could be there. Super.

Ai, beautiful live watercolor for outdoor and sidewalk. I like the fountain. You find the neatest cafes.

Joan, You also find the good eating or food spots for sketches. Your library corner is fantastic. I'm hungry looking at all the goodies.

Hope to see you here tomorrow, if not next Hunt....

Joan: That is an amazing cafe sketch. Love all your details... and your lines... which feel very natural and suit the sketch. When I try to put down lines in my sketch... I often felt like I had ruined my wc sketch... eek !!!.

Ned: Thanks. Congratulations of the fantastic news of your daughter's concert. We love classical music and we all 4 play piano (though I am the babiest level in comparison to all). If she is up to come to Thailand, I could easily help her set up a classical concert. Does she ever upload her music work to yutube, so we can hear it.

Jo: Thanks so much. Isn't it strange, that that garden cafe was very near Lily's school and we never stop there before. The partners/owners were some teachers pull money together to make it into cafe/bakery/learning center. Yesterday, we had to stop there to wait for Lily as the heat was so strong around school roads, so the cafe with some big trees seem a good choice to us to pull in. While waiting for Lily, they put on Jazz music on their outdoor speakers... I thought that was too good to be true...

I am WFH today as it rains all over Bangkok and we are in traffic jam throughout, especially the inbound leg.

Ai -- that airplane is great... the perspective makes it look like it's sitting on top of the paper! Nice shadows on the badminton thingee.

I'll mention that idea to her, it would not surprise me if she wanted to do that! I think she might be planning to put one or more of the senior concert pieces online. She picked some pieces that she says are underappreciated, and I think she said that there are no recordings available anywhere for one of them. I'll find out.

Ned, I'm not good at public speaking either, and don't perform in any manner at all. lol I would think that some of the concert pieces were probably recorded. My niece had majored in dance, and quite a few of the performances were recorded so we were able to see them even without being there.

Jo, thanks. All our local libraries have put in small cafes, but they all seem to be run by the same company so they look pretty much alike. They are a nice change from Starbucks, and the coffee and treats are much better. :D

Ai, that toy plane came out so good! The shuttlecock is so different from the last one I saw...but that was eons ago, so a newer, more modern design is good to see.

Ai, What a fun airplane and shuttlecock. Never heard of playing with light! I like purple on the bowl, too. Clever on the steps. I like that style of painting. The sports field is great. You capture history. It is funny/odd how we don't stop in places. There is a sandwich shop here that we have never entered and a couple of bakeries. Hmmm.

Hi and thanks to the rest of our sketchers.

I started this yesterday I think or the day before. Good thing there wasn't any fruit or flowers involved. So a quick finish this morning.
Number 4 and 5 purple (napkin) and with holes (colander) Pastels on paper about 11x14 inches. I used the rough side of MiTientes so not much blending allowed.

Thanks Robin for this Hunt. Shudda done more. Sad face. See all y'all on the next Hunt.

Jo: Thanks a lot...Wowza on your colander...love your purple still - life. The paper texture is perfect for this.

#20 spiral ...Miss Iris's velvet rod sculpture... It brought me smiles...done on a super old wc paper... can't control much of my shading...the paints just kept sinking down...

Joan, yes sorry I was not clear. Her senior concert was recorded! One of the less-known pieces she sang has never been recorded by anyone. There's currently no way to listen to it.
