Pen & Ink Kitty

I've been practicing drawing directly with a pen, no pencil or eraser, this cat was made with a sharpie gel pen size .05 on 9 x 12 inch paper. The likeness in the face didn't turn out quite the same as in the reference photo but I'm surprised that I'm able to draw at all without the use of an eraser.

That’s really nice, Liz! I always find it nerve wracking to use ink without any pencil lines first but it probably gets easier with practice.

Tell me about it, I've been doing it for a few weeks now and it's still nerve wracking, I keep wanting to reach for a pencil

Thank you both for your comments

You did great! This is my biggest fear with using ink or pen. I don’t trust myself to get through a sketch without my little rubber friend nearby. 😂

I hope you're happy with this one - you should be!

Thanks, I'm happy that I was able to draw it because I'm so attached to my eraser, lol, but I'm somewhat disappointed that it doesn't have the "feel" of the reference photo I was working from, the face doesn't seem right. This is the photo, it's from pixabay:

Liz, the eye on the viewer’s left is off as well as the position of the nose, a little too far right. Little minor things but they alter the face.

Liz, that was a great attempt. I still think he’s adorable. I think the eyes are bigger and the triangle from the mouth and eyes is off on the left. The eyes is too high and the eyes are too small. The top of the eyes if you draw a line is almost half of the height of the entire head. It’s very close to being in the middle of the head if the head was a circle. The main features of the face are on the bottom half. Very much like babies. I think you did very well the nose and the mouth and building up the layers of ink for shading. You’re very close. And most of the time the mistake people make is making the eyes too big!!
So I can see you were being very careful.🙂

Thanks for the feedback! Yes I noticed that the eyes are too small and not the correct shape, If I got them right I think it would of made a whole lot of difference.

This is great work, I love the fur! Drawing directly with a pen is a big challenge, it's probably my favourite way of drawing, as you can't hide your mistakes.

Sorry, I didn't mean that to sound like you had made mistakes - that's just why I like doing it!
No, no, there's nothing to feel sorry about, that's not how I read your post at all. If I didn't want folks to see my mistakes I wouldn't have posted the photo.
