Today I just didn't want to drive into SF to paint. Didn't want to hassle parking, didn't want to get lost in the winding roads in the park, didn't think that Blue Heron Lake (formerly Stowe Lake) was going to be worth painting, yada yada yada. So I went anyway.

The drive was smooth, easy to find, easy to park.

The weather was a bit foggy, but that made for some lovely atmospheric views. The lake was way way larger than I expected and highly scenic, with all kinds of sculptural trees and bushes.

And I painted two of the best I have done in a long while! (OK, so there are three here, but the first two I really like a lot: 9x12" soft pastel on Brown PastelMat, and the 7x5" watercolor/ink on paper, with the 9x12" watercolor Neocolor 2 crayon the last and least.)

I like them all - but oh, that first one is luscious! I don't blame you for being pleased with it. Gorgeous blues, and I'm loving your tree.

You had a very productive day. You should ignore yourself more often. 😉

Gee, my wife says that same thing, but for different reasons.

It’s obvious that you really enjoyed painting these, Bart. I really like the expressive use of color! You created some beautiful work - well worth the drive.

Mmmmm, the pastel is scrumptious. Active and colorful and very descriptive of your feelings. I like the second, too. Always a fan of watercolor and ink. With crayons you did a great job on the third as well.
