Family Ties is a site-specific painting, commissioned as a gift for a very special person in my life. Oil and alkyd on hardboard, 1220 x 1220 mm.

Yes, those very bright colours are not my usual preference, but something eye-popping was requested. I would not normally agree to such specific requests, but this was a special case, so happily agreed to do it.

Ha, I was waiting for someone to pick up on that. I used one of the Japanese characters for "family" as the backbone of the painting:

I also thought of Chinese characters, though they are really Japanese. Well, close! Lovely and colorful!

Right on. I saw the Japanese factor and think this is a wonderful meld of that and 'contemporary' of some sort.
