Art and Taste?

I was going to say like taping a banana to a wall. But then again, painting soup cans was shock value too at one time.

Yes... but I don't know if Warhol intended the soup cans to shock. From what I've read, someone whose opinion he valued told him to simply paint what he liked... and he liked Campbell's Soup.

I seem to remember that Vincent van Gogh "The Potato Eaters" had shock value.
the more I think about it, the more things come up.

I think that taste in art is much more complicated than it seems at first glance. I used to be sure that I knew exactly what I liked and what I didn’t like. But the more I get to know different artists and styles, the more I realize how flexible “taste” is.

I recently came across some works in the WikiArt Store, and it was a revelation for me: what once seemed strange or even “ugly” now evokes strong emotions. I think that taste develops when you allow yourself to look wider and discover new things.

Do you think taste is something innate or can it be formed?

Learned.
