What art supplies have you bought recently?

I bought 3 types of metal clay [ sterling silver, fine silver , copper ] and 3 types
of wire [ silver, copper , bronze ] and some gemstones. I'm going to sculpt some jewelry.
Cheers

That sounds so intriguing! I look forward to seeing the finished work.

That is so exciting. Metal clay is a medium I have been dying to try ever since the time when I tried silversmithing and designed and made a few sterling silver jewellery pieces. Please keep us up to date with your progress.

That's very interesting. I always wanted to try silver smithing. Do you have any photos
of your jewelry pieces ? I would love to see them.
Cheers

It was before I retired and was away from home for extended periods, so I never had the time to execute most of my ideas. Most pieces I made were embarrassingly amateur beginner ones. I will post some photos when I have time.

Got a nice paint box for my acrylics. Michaels had 40% off coupons, so got a good deal on it.

Also picked up a tube of Golden Primary Magenta while I was there. I found the tube I had, apparently had a little crack in the bottom, so all the paint dried out...

Lastly, I have the Derwent Drawing 72 set on the way. I have the original 24 colors, and they're one of my favorite pencils. I always hoped they'd maybe extend the range. Just recently, they did! They should arrive tomorrow. I'm excited for them. :)

Ordered a set of 15 Mungyo Gallery Handrolled soft pastels last night.

I've wanted to try these, as they sound to be fairly good quality despite being pretty inexpensive. I hoped at the very least that they'd be good for underpainting/early layers.

Got the 15 set for $18. Can't complain about that!

Thank you 🙂 The house I'm in now did have painting space at first, I had a really nice set-up. Unfortunately Covid happened, I needed to work from home and my space became a home office. My new house is bigger, so there's a room I can use as an office and have a painting space too. There might even be space for a standing easel. I am so excited for May, when we get to move in!

Good luck with your move! Keep us posted!

Canvas pliers for my ever less young hands.

They're a bit rubbish but not completely useless. It's a faulty design as the handles are for no logical reason too wide when closed. There's no way to use the lever block side as the hand grip encounters the back of the canvas before much movement can be made. This exact design can be purchased under multiple names and finishes, often at twice the price. The only way to use them at all is upside down as shown in picture.
Sorry I don't get to post here very often. Circumstances have reduced my painting time as well.

Browsed a used book store today. Found some nice art books. I brought home four to add to my collection.

- 'Botanical Sketchbook', by Margaret Stevens and Mary Ann Scott
- 'Imaginative Realism' by James Gurney
- 'Wildlife Painting Techniques of Modern Masters' by Susan Rayfield
- Another botanical painting book I forget the name of at the moment. I'll check later.

There were a few more I wanted, but I didn't want to gather too many. On a positive note, I paid an average of $7 each for them (one was $12). All four are in great shape too. The first one actually looks brand new. I don't think it was ever really used.
There was another botanical book I kind of regret not grabbing though. Maybe I'll check back if I'm in the area again any time soon.

I bought a 2 pack sharpie gel pen for making pen sketches after a member (Balaji) said he used a gel pen for some of his wonderful pen and ink art.
