What art supplies have you bought recently?

I haven't got any brushes apart from a toothbrush lol so I'll get one. Yes, I was impressed with the dissolving too. I used to like drawing this this kind of thing at school (oil pastels) so looking forward to trying more... Thanks for the tips

Hi Jade- I use the water soluble crayons for life drawing sessions (you can see my work over in the "human figure" forum) I use a waterbrush (Pentel brand are the best) in the sessions because I can't use brush and a water container in the crowded space.

Received a watercolor set I ordered. Unfortunately it was damaged... The packaging was tattered so I was expecting damages. The tin was dented (looked like someone ran over it...) so the wells were no longer useful. It also couldn't latch closed as a result. The second folding tray inside was dented and couldn't lay flat. And the tray that holds the pans was kind of rough as well. The paint pans were all fine, but I was kind of annoyed at the state of the tin. So I sent it back and requested a new one.
Hopefully it arrives in better shape.

If I may... hope you don't mind. Didn't bought it, but got it as a Christmas present. It is a cute, presentation card sized, very thin (about 4-5mm thick), box containing 12 color pencils, an eraser and a sharpener. Something to carry on a pocket so one may spring to answer the call of inspiration or satisfy the urge to draw at any moment. Here it is over the touchpad of my laptop to give you an idea

Ugh. I'm not getting into well with my inktense. Maybe it's settling into a new medium. I realise I like the detailed colour drawings i do.. mostly of animals but am wondering if adding water ruins the effect. Or maybe I need to try different subjects

The top one is what I seem to like and do quite well (WIP)

This is an inktense... I'm thinking maybe do the detailed approach with inktense and just add water if needed...

Any suggestions appreciated...

Don’t give up on the Inktense yet, Jade. I was thinking the same as you; maybe use them only for select effects. I like the first cat too because of the fur texture you got. Does the kind of paper matter? Maybe the wet effects are better on certain papers rather than others?

Thanks Donna. I agree, I'm holding on for now and think it's finding a way that suits for me. Good thought re paper.. neither are my best drawings but think the adaptability of the pencil suits more but i am thinking of going over the first ones pencil with inktense to add some depth. I guess it's playing around 🫟 appreciate your input. Have you had your surgery?

I somehow acquired one inktense pencil and I have to be careful if I use it instead of a watercolor pencil. It’s a serious black! My surgery is over and I’m in a cast, trying to do one-handed things around the house but mostly needing help with just about everything. Try peeling a banana with one hand.

Yes I think they're just a lot denser, Donna. I'm also finding it tricky to mix the colours. I'll keep playing!

Glad the surgery is done but yes, that sounds like an interesting challenge!! Sending good wishes for your recovery

I like to layer my Inktense. I typically do a layer, wet it, then draw back on top once it's dry. Sometimes I'll do a few layers this way. Then I usually end with some dry pencil work on top.

I received my replacement watercolor set. Much better! There was a dent in the lid on this one too, but I easily popped it back out and you can barely tell. So all is well! It's a Rosa Gallery Botanical set. Looking forward to playing with watercolors some more. Never been a strong medium for me, but I really want to learn.

Not sure if it counts as an art supply, but I received a beautiful crochet hook in my favorite size as a Christmas gift. The majority of it is made with resin and has gold flecks and dried flowers inside. I also got a yarn spinner, made in the shape of layered spider webs, with a multicolored metallic finish.

Ah good point about layering TK H-H. I will try that. I've found a few YT vids to try tomorrow. That's what helped me get back to drawing so I'm hoping will help with inktense.

Your crochet supplies definitely count in my book! They sound lovely and the spider web yarn spinner sounds very "you" (in a good way!).
