What are you up to?

Stlukesguild, that IS freezing 🥶
We had couple of weeks ago 1 F (-17 °C) and now 14 F (-10 °C) so I can tolerate that but not going out much with my asthma.

Brian, you have summer ? 🌞 ⛱️

Indeed. After an unusually cool and wet early summer, the heat is beginning to set in. I'm almost envious of StLukes. Almost. :-)

The hot water tank spilled out water on my basement floor, it got under the furnace, no damage done but I need to wait until Monday or Tuesday to get a new tank installed. I hope that will be possible, Sunday through Monday we're suppose to get over a foot of snow. In the meantime the running water is ice cold. Don't know how people managed in the old days.

Just back home from Rome. I was expecting cold weather and rain there, but instead we were lucky to have about 15ºC everyday. Yesterday there was a heavy downpour while queuing to enter the Vatican again (didn't have time to visit the crypt when we went a couple days earlier) but it was relatively short lasting. Meanwhile, I was told it had been snowing heavily at home, but when we arrived yesterday night, all the snow was gone but for the mountains.

As said, in reverse, "darn, no snow!... oh good, no snow!" :)

Pictures from my morning walk this morning. We have unusual little snow this year so l'm hoping it will melt soon and never return.

We were at sub-zero° F yesterday with the snow really starting around 12 AM Sunday morning. We got an average of 9-10” in the area around me. More shoveling 😡. It’s a balmy 12° now but predicted to be colder. Maybe another day off (as well as today) due to weather. They are predicting 10-20° below-zero wind-chill. Dealing with the weather by staying in my library and listening to music and making hearty meals. We’ll have a big breakfast today and the left-over Pasta Fagiole soup from last night. We were under a state of emergency all of yesterday and I couldn’t help but roll my eyes 🙄 at the clowns who were complaining that all the grocery stores were closed because they were out of groceries. This storm had been predicted in the news and media for nearly a week. I went shopping with my wife Friday evening after work picking up enough food for a week.

Good luck to all you snow people…stay safe and warm in your part of the world. It makes me cold just to read about it and reminds me that I don’t miss my old New England winter weather…the snow, rain and humidity….at all.

Here (New Mexico) we had a “dusting” of snow but it melted by noon. January is the coldest month where it gets down to 20-30 in the mornings (as cold as it ever gets) but goes up to 40-50 by noon. As long as it’s not windy and the sun is out (roughly 300 days per year), you can go out for a walk which is much easier to do than in the scorching summers.

All you need is a light jacket/sweater - no scarves, mittens, hats, or snow boots - because once you get going, you end up sweating like a pig and have to “de-layer” for the rest of the walk. Then you’re stuck toting around clothing, which I tie around my waist like a fat waddling javelina. Speaking of sweating pigs, these are also called cactus pigs…my brother from another mother.

So no complaining from me. Just….Oink Oink.

I just started digging out. I spent 45minutes clearing a path around the car and then brushing the 10” of snow off of the windows, headlights, and hood of the car. I’ll just let the snow on the roof blow off once I get going on the highway. 😆 I looked at the 10-15” of snow down the length of the driveway and just shook my head and went back inside. I’m simply hoping for another snow day tomorrow so that I can shovel out slowly. I’ll already be taking Wednesday off in order to stay with my wife during her scheduled cataract surgery.

Can't say I miss the harsh winters. My parents back home in Ontario dropped to -33F a few days ago. Mum said they had a good amount of snow as well. They're better prepared for that kind of weather than a lot of the areas that got hit, but still...

I've experienced those deep freezes enough times in life. I don't miss it.
Me and hubby were just there recently for a visit. Probably good we came back when we did. Hubby probably would have had an especially rough go in that weather. He feels chilly at 70F. 🥴

I've personally experienced -40F before. I can tell you it's not fun.

Couldn't leave any skin exposed, the air hurt to breathe. You could feel all your nosehairs freezing...
I worked a late shift one night with a friend of mine who I'd hired on temporarily to help with a heavy workload and tight deadline we had at the time. We finished the project around 11pm one night. He was going to drop me off at my house on the way back to his, but his car wouldn't start because of the cold. Awful week that was... 🥶

This is why, now that I live in California, I tell hubby it's felt like Spring for over a year straight. 😆

Got 2 feet of snow Sunday, shoveled it 3 times so the driveway will be clear in case the installer came today, and he did, I'm doing the happy dance because I have hot water again
