Went looking for crabs with two small boys and we found this one. He's not very big and me and the boys aren't big on picking them up

A new bird for us-- a red-bellied woodpecker (so where's the red on his belly?). Never seen one here before.

Strange, but that's what it it called Steve. Why is it called a Red-bellied Woodpecker?

Love that woodpecker musket.
I don't know of a woodpecker here that doesn't contain red in its plumage. We only have three that I know of though.
I took a shot several years ago, very early morning and no zoom lens with me.

Back for a visit to my local nature area. Spring has sprung, and everything is turning green:

Made a quick sketch of a wild flower (some species of Hypoxis, I think), but sitting cross-legged on the ground with a floppy sketchbook in my lap turned out so uncomfortable I couldn't do a good job of it. I'm not the world's greatest yoga expert; I'll really have to invest in a small folding chair...

Fairly big, though not huge. Perhaps slightly above average, as toads go.
