I have not painted en plen aire for many years- so I took it as a challenge when I was invited last month to join a local group for a morning of sketching under the bridge. Of course I ignored the bridge and just painted the water and the fishing shack across the other side.
About an hour oil on timber panel (30cm x 30cm) 12" x 12" that I primed with ultra blue/burnt umber acrylic the day before.
Just as I was finishing, the morning sun lit up a road sign and sent this reflection across the water- magic!

This is super. I love plain air and happy you got out again. Love the colors and contrasts and light on the water!

Thank you, Jo! I was happy to get this in about an hour. The early morning gets lots of shadows (we are in winter) at this time of day.
The sun hitting those points really helped I think!

Plein air painting is the best and I’m glad you’re back out there! This is so vibrant and full of light!

Thank you, Bongo!
I appreciate the encouragement, Donna! I like it considering it was such a quick little study.

Thanks so much, Ayin! I think that you need to be open to the unexpected when painting outside. Such luck!
