Twilight over Brac

Hi folks. Well, I'm not happy with this but it was an experience in panic.... I was sitting watching the sunset over Brac, the sea was a mirror with only breeze ruffles (darkies), no waves or swell. A small cloud bank promised a sky full of red clouds. Opted for pastels as the sun set soooo quickly.
As I started, the light just kept changing, the sea ruffles moved, the cloud bank rolled in really fast cutting off any reds. The colours really were close to the painting, for about one minute. I had to keep guessing and adapting. Finished it with a led headlamp!
Somehow, the photo is harsher, the actual is softer and more balanced, or maybe it's my eyes!
It was crazy trying to get everything down, remember colours, light etc maybe oils would have been better. Today a Jugo is rolling in so that's the end of sunsets for some time.. so no retrys

That's pretty nice. I specially like the clouds and the shadows of the clouds over the sea. Sunsets are specially difficult because, as you say, light changes so fast. Even taking a picture can become a challenge.

Beautiful painting! Love the light in this. The mountain is very beautifully hiding in the distance. The pink sky is perfect. To me this pleinair piece looks successful! Sunsets are tough.

Turned out lovely, despite the struggle. It is definitely twilight, you rendered it well. ❤️

Thanks txomsy. Appreciate your thoughts

Hi Grapes, Donna and Sno, my expectations of a red sunset never happened as the clouds rolled so fast. But it left this silver sea and palest sky, weird. Thanks for your inputs, much appreciated.

I love the backstory on this one, Murray! Sounds like you were hustling in a challenging moment with fading light.

I think this is gorgeous. It's not the red sunset you were waiting for, it's so much better! I love the light blue and silvery tones, with the pink. Very unique and special.

Great job.
