2 — “good for the earth” - moon

(The Moon is amazing - if interested, google what it does to physically stabilize our planet in its orbit, and make possible the kind of life that we all share.)

— non-virtual sketch
— sketched from inside my mobile studio
— freehand

— Pentel mechanical pencil (0.5)
— pocket sketchbook by Daler Rowney (from WalMart)
— (3.5” x 5.5”) (89mm x 140mm)

tl;dr (too long, don’t read)

I was driving along a bit after sunset on Friday, when I saw our lovely Moon through thin wispy clouds.

First, I pulled over and drew just the Moon, with its darkened left side, because there was enough light left to draw.

Then, as I drove a few more blocks, I noticed a fantastic thicker cloud, making beautiful shapes as it passed in front of the light of the Moon. So I pulled over again, and added the new cloud. I tried to capture a particularly beautiful moment, but it was gone so quickly……

I made a few mistakes in the dim light, but left them in this sketch. However, I did some erasing later of the parts of the Moon that were truly obscured by this wonderful cloud.

I didn’t portray it very well, but I’ll remember its beauty from the sketch 😍

In the 2nd image below, I’ve added screenshots from the widget that came with my Moon App. It shows that when I was actually sketching it, it was in a phase that was nearly full, but not quite (89% when I was trying to draw it according to the timeline in the Moon App).

If you want, you can check out the Moon App on the Apple App Store here. Its timeline is wonderful. It also gives golden hour and blue hour information which is helpful for both artists and photographers.

Robin: Excellent fun set... during your journal time... and the mug is so perfect for us all... lol.

PineCone: Fabulous sketch of the moon during your driving.

Pine Cone, grazie!

Ai, love the sketch of the family and the boats.

Robin, I love when you pop in with a burst of sketches.

Pine Cone, super sketch of the moon and clouds!

One more from here. Love the bridges.IMG_0324.jpeg

Robin, always fun to see your work. Applause.

Pine Cone, what beautiful sky/moon scene. Super.

Joan, amazing work and that you have time to share with us. I love the bridges, too.

Joe, already time for a new Hunt. I'll check it out. Sigh.....

Ai, thanks so much for this Hung.

Hi to all of you sketchers..... See ya next Hunt.

Watched "All Creatures Great and Small" and sketched on the footstool in the large Canson Mix Media sketchbook. I used a Micron 03 for drawing and used waterccolors for the color.

Robin -- hi! your sketch made me smile. :) I love the sketchbook inside the sketch... wanted to see an even smaller version inside that one!

Pine Cone -- nice moon! I can almost feel what it's like when the clouds are like that!

Joan -- love the colors and the reflections of them in the canal. Lots of bridges there!!

Fletch -- hi!

Jo -- the apple and pear are great. Especially the apple and I like the "splatter". I know 'an apple a day keeps the doctor away" was a marketing slogan by apple growers, but I eat one almost every day and I really do think it makes me feel better. If I'm on a long walk, it's amazing what it feels like about 10 minutes after eating one... a rush of energy and somehow the world seems like a better place.
I read that James Herriot book decades ago but have never seen the show.

Thank you so much for your comments and kindness Joan, JoC, Ned, Jade, and Ai.

Ai — Wonderful sketches of each student as they work on the exam.
Thank you so much for hosting this fun and encouraging event !!! 🙏😌

Joan — Really nice work on the plane. Amazing composition and portrayals, zowie 🛫
Love the beautiful mysteries in your first sketch in Venice… the mysteries and movement of the water, the mysteries beyond the arches… beautiful and serene, lovely beyond words 🎨
And in the next sketch, your love of Venice and its bridges really shines ❤️

Ned — Wisdom words about sketching and life 😌 I imagined you in that chair, thinking about mindfulness and mindlessness and seeing what there is to see - wonderful wonderful warm sketch, just lovely 🎨

Jo👋 Your hummingbirds really caught my eye. You portrayed their impossible wings beautifully - they look so happy, and your feeder is beautifully done, wowow ☀️
Gorgeous fruits, the shine on the apple, the different feel of the pear, could pick them up from here 🍎🍐
I’m with Ned - read “All Creatures…” ages ago and loved it but haven’t seen (or known about) the show.

Robin — Love your composition - you always fill your sketches with interesting things to explore - clever and well done fun 👍
