Ai, yes the tulip tree flowers look delicate and soft. How nice that the hotel shares with the public. Lovely area to sketch in. Thanks for the photos, too. Your painting is so lovely.
Joan, the vehicle and buildings are so well done. Love the Main Street scene. Lively plants in the other. Your digi of the fence and beach is just swimming. Love your flag and umbrella scene, you know I would.
Hi Fletch, art when you can. Beautiful work on the apple. It looks more edible than the real one. I'm smiling, you know I love to paint apples.

Nice lines and tiles and a yummy pear!! Hospital waiting is always a bore, you found some stuff! Lonely person and pretty landscape. A very nice selection of sketches. You have made my day.
Hi Pine Cone. Hope you are finding some sketching opportunities.
I sketched in the PT waiting area. A man fell as we were arriving and I had some time getting him some help from the PT place. He was just coming out of a store and stepped off the curb badly. They patched up his arm and helped him back to his car. He was not a client but may be now. Austin was telling him to come to help his balance. I sketched in the Canson travel book with a Sharpie marker.

txomsy, welcome! It sounds like you are well-prepared to sketch wherever you go. You did a good job when traveling...catching a few minutes to capture what is around you. The ones from the hospital I consider "sketch waiting" as a friend and fellow sketcher always calls them. Nice work!
Pine Cone, thanks so much for your comments. I'm still learning how to use Procreate and don't really have enough time to devote to really practicing and learning. A lot of what I can do is by sheer luck. lol

Hi, Jo! Yikes...a fall right by the PT place. Good balance is so important. I like the hatching on your purse. You included the zipper pulls too...fun. I have several purses with a few zippers and then can't find which section I put things in. lol
The doctor sent me for an MRI of my spine and we're still waiting for the results. He said no PT until he sees the results, so it's a good excuse to sit somewhere and just sketch and not move around. lol This time I sat in the parking lot at Captree State Park. It overlooks the bay and the Fire Island Bridge.

Joan, scary about the back. My foot is taking ages to heal, but I'm out of PT. Try to stationary bike at home and walk as much as I can. Nice bridge and sand. I need to get with it . The car is very nice. You captured the colors well.

Thank all. Yeah, I'm OK. It's my wife, she broke a shoulder skying and had to undergo surgery and subsequent rehabilitation. But she's already OK (more or less, at least good enough).
As for quick drawing... I can't emphasize enough how useful it is.
I tend to lean on the side of perfectionism, but I know it is a bad habit I should control. When I went to Paris in August I was determined to expend one day at the expresionism section of Musée d'O (it was so crowded I couldn't endure it), mainly to look in more detail, closely at pictures. It is surprising how some master works are made with just very loose and rough traces or scribbles, and yet when you see the whole they seem perfect. A couple of details stuck: one was a sea scene where waves were thick dark blue brush brushstrokes (sort or 1cm x 6cm rectanlgles), the other was a detail in one of Monet's nymphéas at M. de l'Orangerie that was a few dark squiggles (sort of 5cm diameter circles) that looked amazingly like vegetation.
Long story short: by forcing me to do very quick sketches I force myself to get the essentials (idea, composition, overall shapes) and learn to capture the feeling with a few traces.
And when I discover that often that can be enough for a masterpiece (not that I produce any), it teaches me the humility I need to restrain from perfection (which I won't ever attain anyway).

Jo, thanks for your comments. Sorry your foot is taking so long to heal. Our bodies don't bounce back too quickly anymore.

We (or I) tend to want to create a "masterpiece" but that can't happen every time...especially if you don't practice. An instructor I once had said that we artists want to sit down and create a masterpiece immediately. But other artists like singers, dancers, etc practice for hours before they perform. We don't. lol

Jade, I loved the VW but can't imagine scrunching myself up to get inside it nowadays.
I saw these sailboats as I was driving in Bayport today. I did a u-turn and parked. It was either a race or a class. A larger motorboat was there in the middle but I left it out.

Tone and I went to our cabin for 1 night (2.5 hours drive west from our Bangkok home) ... lots of mountains and trees, but also more rains and drizzles this time. So not much sketching. Anyway, on the way back to our Bangkok home, we stopped at one of cabin-town new cafe. They put baby pineapples as their vase decoration. So I sat down and try to sketch them. If all fruits are in simple form ; then pineapples must be the other end of the spectrum. ... In one page A4 size ArtCreation sketchbook.

Ai, thanks! What a fun idea for table decorations!! I've never seem baby pineapples, but the outer skin looks as complex as a regular sized pineapple. You really captured it well. I wonder if they last longer than flowers once they are picked.
We are having a damp, drizzly morning. I won't complain because we are in a "drought condition" and any rain is welcome.

soon but we're having a few nice days and your pictures help too.I've only been to the US once to New York but imagine where you are and paint to be a bit like a beach we have in Kent called Whitstable. Lovely clapboard houses, lobster restaurants and cute shops.

Ai - love the urban skyline. Pine apples are terrific. Use to grow them in my garden. But animals ended up getting more than us. Still have the plants but pot bound do to lack of care and do not bloom.
Joan - Time is why I shifted back to graphite and trying to learn wc. But now there area a number of odorless liquids to blend with which makes large areas easier. Love the F.I. Bridge. One of my nephews who is retired summers on F.I. and winters down here in Naples. Your painting made me call him today as we have not talked in a while. Love the sailboats and glad you turned around. Fingers crossed your back is just a pulled muscle or such.

Jade -Biggest problem with soft pastels is dust unless you have space for a dedicated area. You definitely captured the energy! The positive pants sketch looks fun and made me laugh. I do not typically like abstract but do like the abstract feel of your trees and bushes nice work on the car. Super job on color version on Bob! Nice soft fur

Hi Fletch, Yeh, I'm liking keeping things minimal atm so will stick with pencils then! 
I'm glad you liked all my fun drawings! And I also remember you saying to me about realistic pet drawings when I started here..I wasn't sure I'd be able to do what I'm learning to do so thank you, I'm enjoying the learning process and it felt special to be able to draw my boy, Bob today.
