Scavenger Hunt from Life: #167: Aug 06 - Aug 18

2a and 2b - “landscape” - mini roadside landscape

— non-virtual sketch

— sketched inside my mobile studio

— Pentel mechanical pencil (0.5)
— pocket sketchbook by Daler Rowney (from WalMart)
— (3.5” x 5.5”) (89mm x 140mm)

— freehand

——————————

2c - “landscape” - abstract mini landscape

— virtual painting

— painted later, from imagination, indoors
(see below for explanation)

— iPad Pro
— Apple Pencil
— ProCreate app

— freehand, beginning with a blank canvas

——————————

You guys helped me discover that my sketches could all be thought of as just “notes”, and that makes my Re-Learning to Draw Plan really fun for me. And Ai said something about making a painting based on the sketches being notes, and I decided to do that today!!! 😂

TL;DR (too long, don’t read)

Part 2a was done from my mobile studio a couple of days ago. There was tall weed grass all along the side of the road, but one part caught my eye, because there were flowers mixed in all of a sudden. It looked like the grasses themselves made a special path for the flowers to join the grasses.

So I stopped my mobile studio, and did a really quick “note” scribble to remember how the flowers joined the grasses, along the path made for them by the grasses.

The scribble is the SH #167 item, and is my 3rd official ***Notes-to-Self Sketch***.

Then, yesterday and today, I was still thinking about the grasses making a path for the flowers, and decided to create a painting ***from imagination*** based on that “feeling” I first had driving by. So Part 2c is the little painting below, which I made based on the sketch, BUT painted in the Procreate app, starting from a blank canvas (NOT from the actual “note” sketch).

This is the first painting I’ve done in many years. Thank you all (and other kind people as well), for giving me back a moment of real life that I thought I would never experience again.

Hi again everyone 👋 — I can’t comment right now, but oh my goodness, so much wonderful art - I’ll be back later with comments ☀️

Jade — Thanks so much for your thoughtful encouragement, and kind words.
I love that pic of Bob with his paws sending shafts of love and sunlight into the room 😉😍
I know what you mean about finding this niche of special people, and I’m so grateful we all have each other’s backs 😊 I’ve been meaning to visit the other CS area you’ve found to share your work, but haven’t gotten there yet. I hope to visit you there later today or tomorrow. Give Bob a pet and a treat from here 🐾 ***insert cat food emoji here*** 🐾🐈
Your cat sketch is amazing. Every detail is perfect, from the shine on the hat to his face and clothes….. I had to smile at his expression, slightly puzzled, maybe wondering why he’s in a top hat and fancy clothes 😄

Joe1lt — Thanks so much 👋 Garfield!!! Hmmm, maybe he’s around here somewhere 🐈 I’ll keep an eye open 😉 👀😉
Happy mid-August to you too 😄🎉
Oh, and here’s Nemo 😍 Love your fishes, and beach 🐚 They make me happy 🏖️

Joan — Awwww, thank you for your encouraging and helpful comments ☀️
About using a sketch “to inspire a painting”….. I feel bad, because I meant to add what you said into my post, that you and Ai and everyone inspired (above). I’m so sorry. What you said means a lot, and I’ll always remember that you helped me try to begin painting again, as did Ai and others. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Gorgeous beach painting, sigh…… I’ve been studying the wonderful foliage you painted, wondering how you made it come alive 🏖️ The whole scene is like that. Now I should probably go wash the sand off my feet, the beach seems so alive and real 🎨
Lovely scene at the Herb Farm too, peaceful, serene…

Ai — Your trip sketches are incredible, and I never knew that there were art gatherings with hundreds of people together doing art, WOW, what a great event!!! And your work is superb, truly inspiring, as are your photos. Thank you for taking time to post your images, and letting us share in the event, and walk the streets with you 😃😂

Loulou — Lovely fruit sketch, nice shape and shine….. now I’m hungry 😊

JoC — Thanks so much 👋 I love the way you composed your sketch - it feels natural without being overwhelming - I hope your PT went well ☀️

Ai, don't worry about having time to comment. Just enjoy sketching with the group there. The museum is great with the colorful shutters and flowers. I love the sketch of the Michelin Street Food star of Phuket! You caught the action of the chef and the preparation area so well!

Pine Cone, I'm so glad your sketch inspired a painting. I love how your grasses add such a textural element around the bright flowers. I can just imagine that bigger and hanging on a wall. I think your mojo has returned!!!:)

Thank you all for your kind comments and love to you all from Bob and I 👋🐾 (& Bob says thanks for the treat PineCone and pet Fletch!). Hehe, I think the cat I drew was wondering how he ended up in a suit and where he was off to?!

I flew to Des Moines to visit an girlfriend. Got discombobulated time and missed the second flight from DC to Carolina....ended up in DC airport 24 hrs. The kicker was the flight was scheduled to departr 8:50am, changed to 9:20, then changed to 11:45.....then changed to 12:30.... something about maintinance........finally they just put up the notice --Boarding in 45 minute with a countdown and when it got close to end of countdown they bumped it back up to 45....did that 3 times....it was like slow torture!!!! finally departed for home 3:20pm.....

anyway still haven't unpacked and gotta go to work tommorrow......but the list is posted.

peace out to my dear sketchy bunch.

Robin: Thanks ... cool airport scenes...despite your flight hic-up. Hope you get a good rest after the ordeal.

Joan: Thanks so much for hosting this Hunt.

Joan, the porch sketch is lovely, you know I love porches! Fun digi of the ladies in the pool. Your relaxing scene is just that .. perfect.

Ai, the museum and the food with Michelin Stars are so good. Thanks for your photos and sharing your trip. Happy I can see your world. We so appreciate the time taken to keep us in the loop. Welcome home and back to work.

Pine Cone, so pleased that you are enjoying your art agin. I truly love the paintings. You know how I love red and the different shades with the yellow and green are lovely and lively!

Fletch, hi. Happy to see you and chat. Hope you are into sketching soon. I know too well how hard it is to get in the zone with life in the way. And then I go on down the page and fine our fruit and garlic. Great idea for fragrant. Is that a persimmon? Love the lines and hatching.

Jade, hey there.

Hey Robin, welcome home. What fun and great airport sketches. Our Jennie worked for American Eagle for a couple of years as a flight attendant. She liked it a lot. Your hatching and descriptive lines are so appealing. Seems like you had more time to sketch than you planned. Glad you are home safely. Hugs. and thanks.

Ai, thank you.

Robin, as I started to scroll thru your sketches I was amazed how you could get so many done at the airport...and then I saw how long you were stuck there. Wow!!! You could have filled a whole sketchbook. Your planes are fantastic and you were able to do so many views of them and the people. Sorry your flight got delayed for so long, but your sketch time definitely benefitted. I just jumped over and go the new list. Thanks.

Jo, thanks!

Robin, WOW you made some great use of all that airport time! Love the hatching especially in the first one.

Joan, thin’ pool water is tough and you did it well. In the gazebo and flowers I keep going back to checkout hie yo7 did the tree on the left that looks so detailed and real.

Jo, that is a tomato but persimmon and tomato do look very similar. Hopefully everyone recognized the partial head of garlic.

Keep sketching an$ learning
Fletch

Fletch, thanks. For that tree I added some texture to the tree trunk and branches with watercolor pencils...both wet and dry.

I thought tomato first, but it said fruit and most folks call tomatoes veggies or include them as veggie in salad, cooking, etc. So tried to think of similar fruit shape. You did well on the drawing. I'm smiling.

Bad sketch at PT today. First chair looks like a baby bed or something. The middle chair is wider - for wide person or person and child. Ha. First and third chair should be regular chairs. Metal with leathery seating. Sigh. In the Canson small travel sketchbook with Micron 03

Joan, thanks for this Hunt. Good items. See all y'all next Hunt!
