Scavenger Hunt from Life #167: Aug 06 - Aug 18

Welcome to the Scavenger Hunts from Life. The Hunts were started in 2006 by Jamie Williams Grossman as a way to practice with prompts. Artists have come and gone while forming some lasting friendships. We hope you will join in and tune up your sketching skills. All levels and techniques are welcome. We hope you can have some good times here. You can travel the world seeing the sketches of items at hand by the artists

If you’ve participated in at least one Scavenger Hunt and have time to host one we would really appreciate it. You can sign up by posting your name on the current hosting schedule in the Art From Life forum here:

https://creativespark.art/threads/scavenger-hunt-from-life-host-sign-up-list.2481/page-9

Here are the rules for the Hunt:
All everyday common items on the list must be sketched from life – not imagination or photo reference.

  • Each object you draw can count for only one item on the list, no matter how many shapes/parts/colors that object contains. This was agreed on by unanimous vote among the participants.
  • You may place multiple objects together in a drawing or painting, and may count these objects as separate items, but no single object can count for more than one item.
  • All items posted must be numbered. Count them as you go. The first item you post will be #1 regardless of its place on the list. Do them in whatever order you wish, but count them in the order in which you sketch them, from 1 to 26.
  • Do as many or as few of the items as you like. You don’t have to finish the entire list to participate. The Scavenger Hunt “week” will last for 12 days, with the next hunt starting on the 12th day.
  • Please tell us your size, surface, medium, and the amount of time it took you for each sketch. We love hearing about your subjects and setups. Photos of your subjects are welcome.
  • Have fun!
*** If you have some hunt sketches completed but little time to read/comment, please post your sketches anyway. Commenting is appreciated but not required.

Thanks Joan .. 👋 8.30am here in the UK. Hope you're all doing ok.

#1 - a person (Taylor Swift via Ali Haider tutorial on YT). My proportions aren't quite right but fun to play and will retry again).

Jade, nice work on the sketch of Taylor Swift and the cat. Nice facial features.

Ai, hope you have time for some sketches.

My plein air group painted at a sunflower field. I'm usually so prepared, but I got to the location and realized I had left my backpack home with all my supplies. Luckily most of the people I go out with to paint have extra supplies. One woman loaned me paper, a filled palette, and a brush so I could work. I'm glad the morning wasn't wasted. We paint at this particular field every year.

1 - vehicle - watercolors
2 - flower

Joan - thanks for the list! Great old truck..like the top of the cab looks really old and washed out and engulfed. Those are real art friends!!!

Jade - nice hair on Taylor sketch, cute kitty

Ai - Hi....hope the semester gets off to good start, good luck

Robin, thanks. I was lucky to have a friend there who pretty much had everything I needed for watercolors. I did have an empty cup in the car to use as a water container.

Joan, thanks for the Hunt! Awww, look at your old timey truck and the great sunflowers. And using unfamiliar equipment. Wow!

Jade, well done. Hair on the girl is super. Love the kitty. You are getting in some great practice.

Ai, and Robin, hi there.

I sketched at the dentist's office. I got the head done on the man and they called me back. I finished him from memory and added the window from the room I was in. The front ones are a bit different. There are three windows there, but I just did the middle one. (Finished with the dentist for a while until I decide if I want another implant.) These are in the small Strathmore sketchbook with the Micron 03 and watercolor added at home.
#1 person and #2 colorful - the window.

Jo, glad you were able to get the man's head done before they called you back for your dental work. It is good that you could do the rest of his body from memory. I like the colorful glass window!

Jade, fun sketches. Is that Bob?

Joan, thanks so much. Fun sketch of the lounger. I like the open doors. The house is great and your fence is wonderful. I tried that a little in my sketch but didn't get the open spaces dark enough. You inspire.

Hi all the rest of you.....

#1 vehicle ...I took my car for yearly inspection...so I got a good view of this vehicle (not mine) for 8 minutes before they move it away from my seat spot. So I ink sketch there about 80% and finish the rest of 20% with more lines and watercolor at home.

Joan - thanks! The turtle was fun to draw. 🐢 I love your paintings.. both really evoke those lazy, hazy summer days... 🌞

Jo - thanks! 🙏 The cat's not bob, its a practice from tituta pencil on YT 😻 he's currently napping in his bed but did ask me to say hi say to you all when I saw you next! He appreciates the attention!

Ai - wow .. 8 mins! 🚗 That's inspiring. Really nice job 👌

Still a WIP but thought I'd post for #4 person (second time). It's Emily ratajowski (tutorial by Sylvie Mahdal on YT.) If you haven't seen her work I'd recommend checking her out.. the most amazing photorealistic drawings.) it's helping me slow down and look at details which feels good for my fibromyalgia too so win win. 😅

Hi all, Tone and I drove 1 hour, south of Bangkok to ThaJean River delta area called Tha-Cha-Lom. There are many serious size fishing boats that come in-out from the gulf of Thailand. I found a nice spot with skeleton of a decaying boat and Kroak-Kraak Temple in distance. WC+pencil+ink.

#2 in pieces ... a decaying boat
#3 water...the river
#4 building, the temple on far right
