Scavenger Hunt from Life #140 - Dec 5 - 13

2. Seasonal

I spent too much time on this today. I was trying for more realism with some watercolour brushes, and really struggled with the highlights at times.

Ai, great lines on the hospital sketch. Don't like the sound of "hospital".

Robin, I'm smiling. Love your stack of items. Wow! In the drawer is great, too. The lines on the gifted, shoe and clicks is fun. I don't have any bookends except other books laying down. Ha.

Joan, great finds. The lady is great. Don't we have to find chargers everywhere?

Jane S, wow! your holly is so real looking. Applause on completing your goal! Beautiful.....

I sketched out the window on my footstool in the Ohuhu mixed media sketchbook with Faber Castel landscape brush pens, Ohuhu pens, watercolors. Number 3 free space - out between the sheds in the cold rain.

Joan, Robin, Jo, Janes: Thanks. Beautiful colors and charms... and uplifting holiday spirit sketches from you all, from home, your corner, or even while you are on the road.

I am a bit tired still... from many nights of not getting good sleep due to allergy coughing... Luckily, yesterday after seeing my allergy specialist; his medicines works well with me but I still feel tired and stayed in doing things slow, despite my heart want to be out and about and sketch out. Thanks for your kind words of my humble sketches.

Ned - Great job on the manzanita👍🏽

JaneS - love the digital of a mandarin. Beautiful blending and Welcome. Great job on the holly.

Jo - Nice hatch work on both. Like the brush pen landscape.

Robin - Have found the Lamy Safari EF is thicker than most F nibs but also it does not dry out as fast when I do not use frequently. Love your stack! Open drawers around here can be dangerous. Great hatching on the shoe.

Joan - Super job on room and breakfast sketches.

Ai - Love the manikin pen sketch and double views of the birdhouse. Pretty star

No sketches today printed Christmas cards.

Keep sketching
Fletch

Jo, I missed commenting on your rice cake sketch. I eat them once in a while...sort of a healthy crunchy snack. Nice pattern on the rug. I like that mini sketch by the sheds. Good color!

Jane, you did a wonderful job on the holly leaves...impressive highlights.

Ai, I like your front and back views of the mannikin as well as the birdhouse. That star is so pretty...very festive.

Fletch, thanks. We are still on the road. My Christmas sketch isn't finished and I still has to be printed. My tree isn't up yet. Luckily I don't buy more than a few gifts. Yikes!!!

Sketched somewhere in Tennessee today at lunch.

Ai, happy you are feeling better. Yay. Love the manikin and birdhouse. The blue star is special!!

Fletch, thanks. You have lots to do and great you finished your card. I’ll never get every card mailed before Christmas. I have Valentines as a goal, usually. Ha.

Joan, thanks. I’ve become addicted to the rice cakes, plain ones as they take on the flavors of whatever I put on them. Because I’m gluten sensitive, I use them for bread and snacks. Usually for breakfast with peanut butter and cream cheese, raisins and cranberries. Also egg sandwich with meat like ham or sausage and cheese … make Gene a fake McDonalds McMuffin. Love the lunch sketch with the fish on the wall. The shoe is so fun to see.

Went for a checkup on Gene. All well. Sketched in the Strathmore mix media small sketchbook with a Sharpie and added watercolor at home.

Number 4 seasonal - stocking and Number 5 hanging - fire extinguisher

JaneS: I like the shine and texture on the mandarin. The holly leaves look like a photograph, the highlights are great. The veins in the leaf look very real.

Jo -- nice to see your sketches you always get good values with your pen! Great colors looking out your window!

Ai -- hope you regain energy soon and sleep better! Even just a humble sketch, the three figures have a pleasing composition. :) I like the mannequins! Bird house front and back... pretty blue star!

Robin -- that stack is crazy! Your drawer is neater than mine, nice contrast in that, and I like the way you did the shadow of the sandal.

Joan the painting and chair in the motel room made me laugh... you perfectly captured the "generic blah" decor. I don't think they have deep blue sea fish like that in Tennessee.. the perspective is great. Nice shoe!

Back a bit later with a spindly tree I sketched today....

Joan - Super find for you wall hanging. Tennessee would not be high on my list of places likely to have a sailfish on the wall. LOL Really nice digi. Has a WC feel to it. No tree or decorations up here yet eutherk

Jo - Good news on Gene 👍🏽. Addressed all the cards and mailed today. I am with Joan on the tree (and all holiday decorations). Long to do list. 😎 Nice sketches of the stocking and fire extinguisher.

Keep sketching
Fletch

Jo, thanks for your comments. Cute stocking and great job on the fire extinguisher. Hope it doesn't need to be used.

Ned, thank you! I can't imagine catching a fish like the one in the restaurant anywhere near Tennessee...catfish maybe. lol

Fletch, I guess I'll just have to keep the tree up longer this year. lol See my comment to Ned above. lol

We had dinner out at Texas Roadhouse in Harrisburg, PA tonight. One more day of driving to go...
12 - free space - watercolors and ink

Jo -- I meant to also comment that I love your snoopy stocking!

Joan -- Now you've got me trying to imagine where there could be buffalo near where you are driving! I'm amazed you can pull off a sketch like that at a dinner stop -- well done.

The sun was on it and on me when I started... then when I was shading, it was only on the top and I did the bottom from memory. I left my phone in my car and by the time I got back with it to take a photo, it was completely in the shade.. the shade moved really fast!

Thanks, you folks/friends. I’m getting a little back into the routine. Gene is improving bit by bit and can do more on his own, like go to get the mail or just to the other room. Makes a big difference. I’ve been ordering groceries, first delivered (expensive) and now pick up at the store. In a way it is probably better but I don’t see things to change our rut of eating the same old things. I buy less and all groceries are still going up in price. Spooky, eh?

Joan, I love the Roadhouse sketch. We haven’t been to one in ages. We have a local restaurant called The Roadhouse Bastrop and we go there. Not the same, but good food. Mostly burgers but other goodies, too.Your “road kill” sketches like the fish in Tennessee and now the buffalo in Pennsylvania are fun.

Fletch, no excuse for not sketching now. The big chore is over.

Ned, thanks. I do like your tree. The light is hard to deal with in plein air painting. One of my instructors years ago said to get the light down first and then ignore it. It is easy to chase the light. Your photo shows the shade! Good job keeping the light on the limbs in your drawing.

I need to mail gifts to the great grands tomorrow, but hope to do a stack in pastels. We shall see…..

We went out for breakfast, Tone surprised me by invited me to walk a bit further to check this church out. It sits on Chaophraya River bank too.

#5 has number on it...Sam-rae Presbyterian Church, Bangkok built in 1910...

Joan - I am with Ned. Hard for me to even imagine trying to paint like that in a restaurant. Jo can tell us if it looks authentic.

Ned - Excellent job on the tree.👍🏽. Love the effect how you added the border and than broke through it. Adds to a great drawing.

Ai.- Great painting of the church. The donuts both painted and real are fun and look delicious

#4 hanging - sketched this on iPad while Sharon was doing PT. Used Procreate and the 6b sketching brush. Took about 25 minutes plus or minus. Think that is a personal best time drawing in digital for me. Believe digital would go faster without the undo icon

Ned, I was sketching on a pad that was about 3 x 5. As soon as the waitress took our order I got to work. I stopped when they brought the food, and since Jerry eats more than I do, I was able to finish the sketch while he was eating. I timed it perfectly! I'm not quite sure where the buffalo head came from. There were a lot of deer heads too. I like your spindly tree. Yes, things get shaded pretty quickly as the sun moves.

Jo, I'm glad that Gene is becoming a little more independent. That helps a lot. I would have a hard time ordering groceries. Even when I'm in the store I have a hard time deciding what to buy. lol Thanks for your comments about the "road kill" sketches. They did have a few unusual things stuffed and mounted. The food was really good. I hadn't had a ribeye in a long time...yum.

Ai, that church looks like it could be gingerbread. Your decorated donuts made me smile...so festive!

Fletch, I agree about the "undo" for sketches. It makes it take longer. You did a great job on the water fountain...a challenge with the rounded edges.

We are finally back home...rolled in about 2 this afternoon. I made sure we stopped in a place last night that would get us home before 3. The rush hour traffic in the NY area gets crazy after that. With my short bursts of energy I pulled my Christmas tree out of the closet and started setting it up. The decorating will have to wait until tomorrow or the next day if I can even get to it then. Maybe I'll find something to sketch tonight.
