Scavenger Hunt from Life #137: Nov 11 - Nov 19

Fletch, thanks for your comments. Yes, it looks a bit different. I used a thicker ink pen.

Jo, nice work on the wheelchair. It is hard to see the back wheel when you're sketching. You nailed it.

Fletch, I have a friend who uses watercolors over graphite at times and it gives her paintings a nice dimension. I think you got a nice fuzziness to the ball.

4 - derby (well a hat, anyway) - watercolors - Part of a larger painting started today at the Bellport Flower House. It isn't finished yet.

Jo: Wonderful line in wheel chairs.

Fletch: So fun happy color on the tennis ball with mixed media.

Joan: Super cute Derby piece, and what a wonderful face you paint... in digi. too.

Jo -- Nice job on the chair and the parts behind the wheel ( I can lose my place with those kinds of things ).

Fletch -- good shading on the ball, it's 3-d!

Joan -- ooh that's snowman is going to be part of something great! Nice self portrait... someday I will try one. Learning how to draw people and figures would be a good thing because they add interest to many scenes.

I made this ridiculously hard. To make it fit on the page, with the sizes right, and the composition of my arm in the lower corner... I put it down and drew those few lines to put my sleeve in place and have a place to start. Then I realized it was my right hand! I had to keep picking it up and trying to remember and I messed up the fingers ( somehow 4 in the space of 3 :) ).... live and learn.

Ned, looks really good to me! Well done! It's challenging it's to fit tall/long things to a small piece of paper/canvas but I don't notice anything wrong with your painting. I think all fits well.
Glad you mentioned the right - left hand choice to model .. need to keep in mind.

Joan, l almost missed your excellent paintings. Somehow they didn't appear on my screen. The portrait is really good. You're inspiration with your paintings! Lots of character in that portrait.
Love the derby snowmen ☃️ ⛄ part of the larger painting.

Great sketches everyone.
LOL at ned’s right hand doing double duty :) That airplane sketch looks like you enjoyed it.- oozing personality

fletch Mixing graphite and watercolor looks so subtle and undertones of gray makes it look very real…did the second selfie just for you…thanks for the inspiration :giggle:

Joan..Always love joans selfies….cool snowman looks like he had a spot of teenage achne….to me it looks manly..anyway nice school bus angle…looks like waiting for passengers

JoC… nice catch for yuppie…didnt have any ideas yet what that means before your sketch . Fun wheelchair sketch

Selfies

Joan - Super job on digital self portrait. Fun snowman. Hope we get to see the finished piece. Thanks fir fuzzy comment.

Ned - You made yourself a challenge and definitely succeeded! It is not 4 fingers instead of 3. It is quite obvious you have a fat pinky finger. 😎 All those little curved spines would have sent me looking for a different subject. Nice work. The background diagonal adds a dynamic that would be missing in a solid background. Appreciate the 3-d. Thanks.

Ai - Thank you. It was a fun and interesting experiment.

Grapes - Thank you so much.🤗 The AWESOME still has me smiling.👍🏽

Robin - Yay for a smile! Self portraits are typically do stern and intense looking. You smudge? The aroma of burning sage is so special. Besides smudging I like to burn it when meditating. (Have some, drying in the garage.🙂)

Keep sketching
Fletch

Robin, very nice drawings!

Fletch, your welcome.

I did one 45 min. mirror self portrait 😁 today but it turned out odd (like they tend to be). I might give it some lighter touch to see if it could improve somehow and then post here.

My thanks to everyone for your comments. That digital sp doesn't resemble me much, but it was good practice anyway.

Ned, lol that's the only kind of racket sport I get involved in. Good thinking.

Robin, good job on the selfies. I think the second one is a good resemblance. Good thinking for idol and nice freshness to the sketch of the smudge stick.

Fletch, the snowmen are part of a possible Christmas card...if I finish it. lol

Grapes, I think most of our self-portraits turn out a bit odd. It is strange to sit and sketch looking at your own face.

Joan, we learn if we do repeatedly self portrait studies. In the end they will turn out ok. I've done very few, this is maybe my 4th .

#1 self portrait - myself in the picture, looked at a silver tray as a mirror, image quite dim: for that reason my face is so dark - my eyes in real are blue and face white but I decided not to paint this one more. Better do another one tomorrow.
Size: 12x12 cm, painting time: 45 min, oils on cardboard.
