Scavenger Hunt #154: Mar 27 - Ap 4

My humble sketch today.

1000012812.jpg

Joan -- I liked the bluegreen in the "underpass" at Jackson Heights and how you can see the blue sky in the distance. I'm with Fletch, love the colors at Sayville! Like the nice bright cheerful blooms.

Jo -- "big 12 mints" made me chuckle. Nice quick sketch. I doubt I will ever get into digital sketching ( too many decades sitting in front of a computer, so my hobbies are "tactile" and preferably outdoors! ) but I like the colors in the mugs on the shelf. That's an interesting box made from recovered wood... it reminds me of a birdhouse I got my sister at our local honey store that was made from recycled old beehives....

Joy -- I like the multi-colored pen drawing and you did really well with the white bristles on white paper.

Fletch -- good job on those jars of ink and masking fluid. Unlike Joan who doesn't need masking fluid so it goes hard/bad.... I've never seen or used masking fluid and wouldn't have a clue how to use it in the first place :) I have a vague idea it's something like rubber cement that you peel off, but not sure about that!

Ai -- nice smooth lines and great symmetrical shapes!

Will see about sketching today... a lot of chores lined up and an appointment right in the middle of the day... but it's rainy and windy so it would be a good day to go sketch something from inside the car.....

Joan: Love the yellow flowers of coming spring.

Jo: Fun shelf with many mugs, cups... but the sketch of wood box with cap is so beautiful.

Fletch: Nice bottle sketch.

Joy: Enjoy your retirement.

Ai, nice lines in your sketches! Thanks for your comment.

Ned, thanks. It is fun to sketch a complicated subject and the sketch sort of kept growing while I was doing the one of the train station. lol You nailed what masking fluid is like in your post to Fletch!

I was up in Port Jeff on the north shore to drop off paintings for a show at the community center there. The paintings are in a group show and will be exhibited for the whole month. I figured I'd find something to sketch while I was up there. This 2019 Chevy Corvette ZR1 was parked in front of a store. I couldn't resist it! I'm not a car buff and had no idea what it was, so I Googled a photo of it to find out what kind of car it was.

Ai, I love that you have the tiny duck and a tiny seal too. Cute sketches! Your blooming flowers and colorful trumpet flower tree look lovely. We are finally getting to see some things in bloom...the trees and forsythia are starting and the daffodils are popping up.

Joan - always fascinates when you switch styles based on the subject. A very impressionistic patch of trumpet daffodils then a much more realistic urban scape. I was very impressed with your knowledge of Corvettes and than read your give away. Either way it is a neat painting.

Joy - remember comments are nice but not required, we want to see your art!

Jo - Great pen work. The box is super cool as we use to say and an interesting tchotchke.

Ai - Your humble sketch looks like a textbook illustration of contour drawing. Your lines are all so confident. Supper job on the blind contour. It is recognizable which most of my blind contours are not 😎 duck and seal are cute. Like the shading. The flowers and tree are lovely. Nicely done.

Ned - You nailed masking fluid. Great when you have to preserve whites. The alternative is in the next bottle Dr Ph Martin’s Bleed Proof White. Very opaque. Not really sure if it is watercolor or gauche but it works.

Off to find something to sketch before playing with watercolors.
Keep sketching and kearning

Joan, what a mess at your house. I've been wondering what we will do as we are aging. Sure need to sort things out. Your Corvette is so "fine". I like the store windows in the background.

Ai, the line drawing of containers is so well done. The blind contour is so good. Love the little duck and seal. Flowers are great. We didn't have many wildflowers this year, too dry.

Hi everyone else and thanks for the comments and likes.

Joan, I instantly recognized the 'vette. Amazing you can do such sketching with just enough detail.

Ai, the pink flower is gorgeous with the different values and color blends. Rubber ducks remind me of the ones I see passengers finding on cruise ships.

Fletch, I really know nothing about cars and don't recognize one from the other. I'm glad Google identified it for me. lol

Jo, sometimes I think I should just throw away everything and start from scratch. Right now I'm watching the workmen put sticky blue plastic covering on all the tile floors and clear plastic over the carpeting going in and out of my living room and kitchen. I'm hoping I can find a spot to sit and sketch them when they are cutting holes in the ceiling. lol

Joy, I wasn't sure the 'vette would stay parked long enough for me to sketch it, so I made sure I took a photo just in case. It was still there when I finished the whole sketch. I didn't expect that.

Ned, Jo, Ai, Jo, Joan 👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽

#4. Comes in a tube
#5. has a handle
Multiple grades of graphites in A5ish size sketchbook. Lost track of his long as I had to stop to fix sharpener when I broke a 4B lead in it. Was snuck so had to clean out graphite dust and remove the blade to force the stuck piece out. Nit technially difficult but messy and parts all very small for big, log hands.😎

Joan, I feel for you. We have collected so much "junk" again.

Fletch, super sketch. Handy new products can be time consuming. I use an old razor for sharpening pastel and colored pencils.

Robin, what a fun scene you sketched. I love the car and bulletin board. I'm smiling.

Fletch, the art tools are basked in art pleasures , amazing
Ai - i love the blind contour motorcycle, just do, don’t know why and that is just enough…the fender and tires and all belie speed and wild winds
Joy, it is pleasure to have you here.
joC - i feel like we are those mugs on the shelf……….unusual repurposed box has good personality
Joan- beautiful work, i am alwats amazed at what you manage to pack into those street scenes, wow!

Tone had some free time to take me to the park...He ran while I sketched another scene of yellow trumpet flower trees
