Sandpaper, not sanded pastel paper

What happens if you use regular commercial sandpaper instead of sanded pastel specific paper?

I've never tried it, Bart, but know that it wouldn't work for me. Even if I used it for practice only there would be a time when I liked something well enough to frame it. I have a bin of old sandpaper and it's not holding up so well - it's brittle so it's probably not good for the long haul. I also rely on wet underpaintings and don't know if sandpaper would allow them or if it would fall apart.

I've used it for screen printing (black only), which was very difficult to get a decent print, but it sure looked cool! I would use it with acrylic paint probably.
