New light shed on Gauguins life

I can’t get the link to open, laf. Unless it’s just me could you try again please? I love his work too.

And here I always thought it was well known that Gauguin routinely took the side of the natives against the colonial authorities, and ended up in legal trouble over it. All the blather about the underage girls and cultural appropriation etc. has always just been an example of what Nassim Taleb calls "anachronistic bigoteering", i.e. judging people of the past by our own modern standards. It's a silly game.

But glad to see a new book cast even more light on these issues.

Perspective youtube channel has a very good video.
And according to old letters was found it is his wife who left him because he did not earn enough big money to keep her in fancy style goods she was used to.

Thanks for the links. I feel a little guilty for believing the syphilis story now.

Don't feel guilty; it was a widespread disease at the time and he had similar symptoms. That was all that was reported.

Good article. Thank goodness for research, science, and facts. ❤️
