I did visit several times the Louvre Museum, the first time in 1980. Each time I saw the "original" Mona Lisa, never in the same place, usually under bad/insufficient lighting, very probably because museum authorities try to preserve the work from intense light. Of course, Leonardo didn't use today's best lightfast colors. At least the first time (1980) the work was placed in a quite small box behind a heavy glass that reflected lots of ambient light. As you understand, I couldn't see many things in these conditions! Never really satisfied.
