Proof of her enduring appeal are the endless attempts to explore/dissect her enduring appeal :) She continues to intrigue after centuries of viewings.
 
Hmmm... The question of what ML is smiling about arose in the article. It reminded me of a young lady I knew in high school whose mouth was in a perpetual smile. Not a grin, but the corners of her mouth turned upwards naturally.

It would be interesting if that's what da Vinci painted – a natural, built-in smile. Which just happened to drive the rest of the world crazy!
